  • Have a search on Wattage, that issue crops up and I believe the file may be recoverable (depending on what went wrong).

  • Lots of power stuff, nothing obvious about missing records.

  • erm... I seem to recall thinking that was happening once. Then I discovered the history would only hold 250(?) activity records - and seemingly it chooses to display the oldest ones, giving the impression that it wan't recording anything. After I deleted a few the newest ones all appeared as normal...

    #probablynotthesameproblem

  • I only had a few previous rides in there, like 5 or so. I move them to the PC fairly regularly so I doubt it was that. Plenty of space on the card too.

  • What's the latest Edge 800 firmware? Anyone installed it? Problems?

  • Ealing to Tempsford (SG19 2AN).

I want the quickest/shortest, most bike-friendly GPX file for this route possibly. How can I do it?

BikeRouteToaster is a piece of shit if you don't already have a GPX.
Google Maps is a piece of shit if you want to save a route.
The 800 is a piece of shit if you leave it up to it to decide where to go (200k my cock and balls!)

  • There used to be an issue with Google Maps where you had to make sure you were on the .com rather than the .co.uk version of the site before trying to save something to 'my routes' or whatever it is. Don't know if that's any help to you?

  • Good luck with that pb :)

  • Thanks but I'm riding out there to get some miles in so I think that's probably off the cards.

  • This is the F1, FFS. The clue's in the name. Even with a steady ride out, you can probably get your sub-4hr ride done, unless the northerly wind messes with things.

Get those particular 100 miles done by 10am, please.

I'll not be a million miles from there during your ride, but unfortunately don't have time to make the diversion :(

  • F1 means nothing to me. People keep saying it's fast but I can't even tell where to turn. Where is Girtford Underpass on a map?

    COURSE F1/100 100 miles (Revised 2009)

START On B1043 about 0.4 ml north of Tempsford flyover.
Just north of road to Everton, 10yds north of kerb start, and 77 yds south of large green sign. (GR163531 )
Proceed southwards, at RAB on flyover turn right, over A1, left at next RAB, down slip rd , left at T-jn onto A1 northbound..
Northwards on A1, and continue over Black Cat RAB to
TURN (10.85 mls) at Buckden RAB. Retrace on A1 southbound, straight on at Black Cat Rab to
BEAR LEFT ( 22.24 mls) at Girtford U/Pass..Through underpass and under A1 Retrace on A1 northbound, straight on at Black Cat Rab to
TURN (33.89 mls) at Buckden Rab. Retrace on A1 southbound, straight on at Black Cat Rab, Girtford U/pass and Sandy Rab to
TURN (48.83 mls) at Nth Biggleswade RAB. Retrace on A1 northbound , straight on at Sandy RAB and Black Cat RAB to
TURN (63.84 mls) at Buckden RAB. Retrace on A1 southbound, straight on at Black Cat RAB and Sandy RAB to
TURN (78.78 mls) at Nth Biggleswade RAB. Retrace on A1 northbound , straight on at Sandy RAb to Black Cat RAB
TURN LEFT (85.72 mls) take 2nd exit, onto westbound A421, to
BEAR LEFT (89.83 mls) at Renold flyover (the first flyover) onto old A421, thru Gt Barford, onto Black Cat RAB to
TURN LEFT (94.52 mls) take 1st exit onto westbound A421 to
BEAR LEFT (98.63 mls) at Renold flyover onto old A421
FINISH About ½ mile before Great Barford X-rds, 10 yds west of tree, 40 yds before (west of) large disused layby. (GR 122517)

  • Getting up at 2am to ride out is sounding less and less "fun". I think I might drive out and go for sub-4hr and then ride home.

  • ^Willesden colours

  • I bought a grey Castelli skinsuit. It didn't fit. Am I surprised? Le non.

  • You've probably worked it out, but the Girtford u/pass is about a km north of the A603/B1042 jnctn of the A1.

  • Yep, I think I have that bit sussed now trying to work out the finish out of A421.

I would put money on me taking at least one wrong turn on this course.

  • They'll marshal the shit out of it.

  • I've been in a few races where marshalls don't indicate which way. This course is convoluted as a mofo. Now I can't find the old A421 or Renold flyover. It's says the "ffirst one" but that's clearly Roxton Rd.

  • Always confusing :/

I'm assuming they mean go down the A421 until the first flyover-that-you-could-actually-access-via-a-slip road, bear left onto St Neots Rd (old A421, signposted 'Gt Barford'), heading north through Gt Barford back to Black Cat, then do loop again etc.

  • Cheers. I think I've got it. I still reckon there's massive scope for fail on this course.

  • Failure to drop below 30mph when heading south with the tailwind.

  • Tailwind heading south? What voodoo is this?

  • I'm currently using my iPhone for Strava, which is fine locally but less good for long rides due to rubbish battery life (also not ideal for cycling abroad).

The devices under consideration so far are the Garmin Edge 200 £95 and Bryton Rider 20 £99.

Would be great to hear some other recommendations.

    Cheers
