  • I guess they might bump reviewed routes in the results.

But what's a star rating mean anyway? You'll just get the 95% of people are idiots reviews like "Zero stars. I didn't like this route at all because it was all off road and I only have a road bike"

  • Or, it will be like Amazon reviews - "this route is excellent! The mapping worked really well and it downloaded perfectly to my Garmin, but I haven't ridden it yet as I have been too busy cleaning my bike"

  • Exactly.

"Great route! I don't have a Garmin to try it but I see it goes past my favourite knitting supply store so I know people will love it."

  • "Street View was recently removed from all the non-Google Map Styles in our system due to Google's terms of service. In order to comply with Google we can no longer show the option to use Street View on other map types."

  • we can no longer show the option to use Street View on other map types

Noooooo, this is le bullshit. OSM + streetview was great. The little orange bastard still stands there but won't walk anywhere

  • Yeah. Their update also broke statshunters and Squadrats plugins and in general, seems shit. I just wrote their support a message about the update and how everything seems slower, the bigger directional arrows seem to obscure CPs and fuck Google for breaking StreetView.

  • The street view update ir super annoying but it makes sense if it's in order to comply with some shitty terms... It was good while it lasted, would constantly bump into gems like this.

    Rip fallen soldier

  • It's also annoying their map switcher is a dynamic react dropdown. If we had the option to quickly switch between osmc and google maps, that would help a bit. But ofcourse they won't do that because they want you to use their own maps. (Who uses that rwgps cycle map anyway...)

  • They've added it as a right click option (not sure if it was always there) but muscle memory and all that ofc.

  • Right, but if you click where it's not covered by street view it doesn't do anything. Previously, dragging the street view icon would highlight areas where it's covered

  • Just shooting some ideas that will go nowhere. Maybe a splitscreen could work.

  • Good point, I didn't realize you could drag to see highlighted roads without having Google's map on.

  • I have the super tiny Garmin 130+ and it works brilliantly for my needs except it very easily loses GPS signal/under-reads on speed etc. if there is a decent amount of tree cover or similar. Does anyone know if this is particular to the 130 (maybe because it is so small the GPS antenna is bit weedy) or is it the case with all Garmin devices of this ilk?

  • That could be useful. Send that to their support email.

  • My 130 never seemed much different, in terms of GPS performance, to the larger units (my 830 often under-reads in the denser parts of Surrey, for example).

In fact, I've been wearing a 5 year old Garmin watch a bit recently and, if anything, it seems more accurate around tall buildings than the 830 - so I'm not sure the size of the unit is necessarily a determining factor in that respect..

  • Thanks. That removes any justification for upgrading the 130+ ...

  • Have you played about turning GLONASS/Galileo GPS on and off? Should be a combo that gives you the best signal

  • GPS signal strength is pretty weak, so things like tree cover, lots of high buildings, etc., will always have an impact on the receiving unit's ability to meaningfully process and output data.

GPS is also notoriously rubbish at calculating speed on the fly. It's only afterwards, when it has a series of timestamped coordinates, that it can produce an accurate picture of actual travelling speed.

  • Does anyone know what battery an original v1 Wahoo Elemnt takes? I have seen that it is possible to replace the battery on these units.

Have had mine since around 2017, very happy with it, it works fine but the battery only lasts a couple of hours now before dying. It seems such a waste to go and buy a brand new GPS when its seemingly a simple case of a fresh battery. I asked Wahoo directly and they didn't tell me, stating that the battery isn't replaceable. I guess they have to take this line in case it explodes in my face, though its odd as it sounds like historically they have helped customers replace them.

Appreciate any input on the above, I am not comfortable with soldering and shit so if I can find a battery cheap enough might try and find someone to fit it, would likely still be a fair bit cheaper than replacing the whole thing...

  • I haven't and as far as I can tell there are no options to do that.

  • Thanks, very useful.

  • Thanks for the reply, and for sending along that suggestion. I can definitely see the benefit of this.

I've tagged your support ticket for our product team to consider as we make future improvements to the web-based route planner.

  • They are good at taking on board feedback. It's good not to get the usual standard reply and black hole.

  • Thank you so much for the additional information and sorry for the issues you have experienced in the Route Planner. I will pass your feedback along.

It sounds like there were some issues surrounding a few changes made to the Route Planner at the end of last week and those have been reverted. Have you tried to use the Route Planner again today? If so, does it seem to be working correctly?

If you have any additional questions or if you need any more assistance, let us know and we'll be happy to help. Thank you.
