  • Littigator - sorry to hear about the job. Hope another one comes along soon enough for you to not require a name change. Do you have a specialism?

To train, go on a turbo with no chain on your bike.

Oh and it's raining. Get out on your bike and htfu. You are meant to be a litigator. Think like one.

  • No worries dude, at least the fuckers paid out!

Errrr, turbo with no chain...how does that work...oh and the missus won't let me have a turbo in our wee flat. Apparently, 4 bikes is already too much 'bike stuff' she says...meh!

So I guess that leaves me with your suggestion of taking a big fat sip of HTFU,

    sllluuuuuurrrrrrrp!

  • Snowy might...

Arf. I did better with the betting against her last week. She'll be along at the tweed ride and if VeeVee can persuade her, will be racing at the next Brass Monkey night.

no chain = no resistance = spin to win!!

the best bit is you actually don't even need the turbo.

Try doing reps on a steep hill fixed in a low gear. Concentrate on the downhill effort of spinning. You will learn a smooth pedalling motion. Remember you will need a cadence in excess of 200 and so 50 inches at 35 mph should help.

Also a hill that takes 30 seconds to descend.

  • this has just popped onto the radar, with a few nice pics from last Wednesday:

  • All the top performing rollers are now using the drops. This appears to differ from the advice that I was originally given about using the tops to open my lungs.

In order to keep it simple, hands on top of the bars is what we tell inexperienced racers.
There is another technique/position that is more difficult to master. Simon Jackson showed it to me and explained why it worked. It has certainly made a difference to my best time, if it did take me a while to get right. There are a few others that have improved using this position too, Hillbilly for one.

If you put your hands on the drops it is possible to carry most of your weight with your arms and very little with your legs. Placing yourself forwards on the tip of the saddle brings your hips over the BB, helping you to spin faster. This replicates a good TT body position.

Some people naturally have a super fast cadence. BJ, Iwan Thomas are olympic grade athlete's (runners) and are a mark above all us amateurs. Craig Mclean didn't make the Olympic team and is faster than the runners, his cadence was approaching 260 when he posted 18.84 on the rig. God knows what Chris Hoy would do if he gave it a propper shot, I know he can reach 300 rpm on a special cadence training bike.

that'll be by the same Brad I met in TDV on Friday.

the world of cycling is smaller than a dwarf holding a chihuahua puppy whilst driving a smart car into a doll's house.

  • Just to get an idea of scale, the RPLZ wheel of fortune is only 30cm in front of Winston's head.

+1. Its done wonders for my time's. I wont to try and get on the sub 20 board by the end off the season. So its time for me to start taking it easy on the old booze.
