I really like the Topeak Pocket Rocket. So much so that I have two of them, one set up for each valve type.
They do take a while on large volume tyres but I find they don’t really get noticeably harder to pump as the pressure builds which every other mini pump I’ve tried does.
This one...
Can be found pretty cheaply too.

that one looks a good option but it's maybe a bit long? do you reckon it's jersey pocket sized?
-
• #780
It’ll definitely stick out the top of your jersey pocket a little but,
Seeing the tip (ooh err) > pumping furiously and getting nowhere (in your endo)!

Funny, I like the Lezyne screw-on pumps. But I do tend to run tubes that have valves too short for the rims for Topeak style mounts to attach. I've got Road Drive HP (I think), a smaller Lite Drive HP one and on the gravel bike I carry one of their bigger "mini track pumps". I also have an iPump (lightest pump in the world) that @Black_Rainbow_Project gave me, which I still carry on the road bike regularly.

yeah pumps a pump

I’ve got the pocket Silca Impero and it’s great, really robust, always seals on the valve, doesn’t brake anything, easy to hold in place. Just works.

Does your dislike by any chance stem from their ability to unscrew removeable valve cores as you try and remove them. I discovered this while on a solo tour, in Scotland, in the sleet. Hadn't previously come across removeable valve cores on inner tubes.
-
• #785
Yes. No matter how tight they're done up. The pumps also like to unscrew themself. And I've had a core snap in the tube too.

Tattico is better IMO, a bendy hose that connects rather than pump directly so it absorbs all the shocks you put in while pumping and bike stays stable

It comes with a mount for the bottle cage. I have used one for many years and never had a problem.
-
• #788
Mostly I've liked my Lezynes, but the two I've bought have both had the most important seal fail/perish.
It's replaceable but seems like a bit of a design fault.
-
• #789
I find it easier to hold the pump head and the wheel together in one hand, and then pump with the other. The hose I find an annoyance.
-
• #790
They're moving parts. Seals will always wear out. Being easy replaceable is important.
-
• #791
I've not unscrewed valve cores like poor skinny and I prefer the screw-on/off for valves as it's much easier on the valves compared to some pumps that almost feel like you're tearing the valve out of the tube every time. (I do also still have a stick pump like that Silca that I quite like)

Yeah, I have the same issue with my otherwise very nice Travel Floor Drive. It drives me up the wall. Pre-tightening the valve and the pressure release button both don't help.

I now superglue the valves in before using them. I can see that this design is kinder to the valves and potentially more serviceable but incredibly infuriating at the time, especially if in the field. I got a valve cap with integrated valve spanner on to ensure I always have a way to try and nip them up along with superglue now in my puncture repair kit (also useful for tyre cuts).

I’m thinking I’ll get a Lezyne Micro Floor Drive. Am I correct in assuming that it’s the High Volume one I want for tubeless setup. Tire volume will be 700c 38-47mm

I have one of those on my gravel bike.

Would you recommend?

I like not having to piss about with smaller pumps. I've not used it a great deal but it's nicer than a mini pump especially for high volume gravel/mtb setups. Michael Wacker used one for TABR - that's where I got the idea from. I got one with the gauge - it's a bit shit to be honest so I'd probably not bother with that unless you really have no idea what tyres feel like at certain pressures.

• #798
Thanks! Will not bother with the gauge.

Any experience getting up high volume (38-50c) tubeless tyres (from flat but seated)?
Unsurprisingly a Topeak micro is useless, air bubbling out quicker than it can get in.

Noticed my Topeak Pocket Rocket is springing back as it draws in air, like something is blocked or stuck? If I pump slower it doesn't happen. Anyone had this issue?
does that work OK on a road tyre?
thanks @Fibreglass that's a useful article.
