  • In a World... In a word, hilarious...
    #really

Just came here to post that. Loved it.

  • Watched that new Wahlberg film.
    Lone Survivor.
Pretty good war film. Lots of explosions, gun fights and lots of tension.

Not life changing but enjoyed it enough.

  • It is good, but a bit flag wavey. The Americans die with lingering close-ups and tearful eulogies, the Afghans just get slotted with minimum fuss. Wahlberg is a nasty piece of work too.

  • Watched Out Of The Furnace a couple of weeks ago. Quite liked it. Harrelson does well playing the goon, Christian Bale puts in a very strong performance (his best in my opinion) and could have been a candidate for an Oscar. Some good references to the deer hunter too.

I know what you mean, but I think you're being a bit unfair. They were the protagonists of the film, characters who had back stories developed through extended screen time. When they die, it's a bigger deal and this is true of any film regardless of the content (Lucas didn't spend seconds reflecting on the endless Stormtroopers (is that one or two words?) being blasted out of existence).

Overall I don't think it "flag wavey" at all. Which was a nice surprise.

The sounds when they were tumbling down mountains though. Ugh!

  • I haven't watched that one yet, may try it tonight before the conclusion of The Bridge...

True enough, and not all the locals were hostile, that was a nice touch. Definitely gruesome and realistic, that was special forces' heaviest loss I think. Your choices are limited if the best one is jumping off a mountain.

  • Ha, no kidding.

  • Why was Walhberg a piece of work?

  • At 15, Mark Wahlberg harassed a group of African American school children on a field trip by throwing rocks (causing injuries) and shouting racial epithets. When he was 16, Wahlberg approached a middle-aged Vietnamese man on the street and, using a large wooden stick, knocked him unconscious (while calling him “Vietnam fucking shit”), he also attacked another Vietnamese man, leaving him permanently blind in one eye, and attacked a security guard (again using racist language).
Commenting in 2006 on his past crimes, Wahlberg has stated: “I did a lot of things that I regretted and I have certainly paid for my mistakes.” He said the right thing to do would be to try to find the blinded man and make amends, and admitted he has not done so, but added that he was no longer burdened by guilt. I like him, he's brilliant in Ted and the rather silly Shooter that's on tv tonight, but he was a thug.

  • Yeah. That is pretty fucked up.

  • Wow, movie/rock stars can be douchebags? Really? I had no idea...

  • I just DL it.......I better be suitably non plussed at Walhberg

  • Watching it now, it's good...

  • 12 years a slave hands down.....Incredible.

I can recall walking out of the cinema after watching Mississippi Burning (1989?) feeling really frazzled.
It felt the same last night watching this film. Utterly brutal and mesmerising performances.

  • can you spot the cgi?

    look closely...

Wow. I am genuinely shocked by this. It's amazing to think he went from a delinquent gang member to Hollywood mega star though.

What was his brother up to?

  • Please elaborate!

What would you like to know?

  • ^ No idea. I don't know his brother.

  • I tried to watch The Road last night. Considering I never even got through the novel on which the film is based, I should have expected it to be slow and miserable. Some times it's simply not worth giving up 2 hours of your life just so you can say you've seen something.

So I watched The Voice instead :/

  • In a World was pleasant enough. needed moar Nick Offerman tho.

  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman's dead. Real shame, he could really fucking act...

  • /\ RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman, I think he was underrated in his day, very believable and honest.
