  • Up until the weekend I thought 12 years a slave was directed by Steve McQueen ala Great Escape.

  • 12 years a a slave

12 Years a Slave... Not as great as I was expecting. Maybe over hyped? Beautifully filmed.

In a post somewhere up above, someone mentioned that when films have worthy subject (as this surely does) it gives them advantage when it comes to nominations for awards - and the related praise. With that i agree totally.

It is very good, well told and acted. Would recommend seeing.

  • Well acted... Apart from Cumberbatch,, who was shite.

  • I thought Fassbender was far worse

    MILD SPOILERS

like for instance Fassbender was portrayed as a deeply troubled, disturbed man, rapist and sadist. At one point Fassbender was ACTING so much that dribble came out of his mouth, the audience sat there watching a white actor ACTING so much that dribble came out of, hang on, I thought this was a film about slavery? That back story was pointless, he didn't need to have that backstory. Pitt's ludicrous cameo with his Aldo Raine accent was unintentionally hilarious. I felt he was crow-barred into the film to salve white liberal guilt.

    Quite cartoonish

  • Also watched Last Vegas the other night, much hilarity...

    It was shite.

  • You're not as old as I am, I'll happily watch De Niro doing the dishes... It is fluff, I'll give you that...
    #demographics

  • I'm not as old as you, true. The film was mainly about old guys perving on young girls though, so maybe there was something more appealing to you.

    #beagleitsnotoffensiveifiwinky

  • The bits I DID hate (beagle and Erin will back me up on this beagle) were all the gratuitous totty-walking-through-shot sequences, it was absurd...

That said, I enjoyed it in a fluffy Hollywood-geriatric-buddy-movie kinda way... As did the two women I watched it with, laughed like drains they did...

  • Filth great movie. Great soundtrack.

  • American hustle was fun. Kept me guessing. Made me want hair. Etc.

  • Im thinning and pretty bald on top but that film DID NOT make me want hair...

  • The mayor's hair was pretty impressive.

  • Oh yeah renner did have a decent head of hair

  • up until the weekend i thought 12 years a slave was directed by steve mcqueen ala great escape.

    me too lol!

  • Is that not a thing?

  • Am I the only one who thought American Hustle dragged? Good story and Bale was good but it was really slow in places.

Thankfully there's always a bit of side-boob to distract the viewer.

  • I didn't enjoy Filth that much...

  • Yep, AH was dull and thin. Agreed on side boob.

  • It did drag at times, I agree. But the second half did a good job of pulling me in. So I forgive it.

  • they're making an Ant Man movie. has anyone other than the most neckbearded of comic book dorks ever even heard of Ant Man?

  • Yes. Henry Pym.
Though they've made a mistake getting Edgar Wright to direct.

  • there's loads of different ants mans. are they going with the hank pym version?

  • Pretty sure, as he's the current one.

  • Cause you know, the avengers films need MOAR science.
