Watched American Hustle last night. Some funny bits and it started well but to me it sort of lost its way in the middle but somehow came together by the end.
Entertaining none the less and a lot of big names in it.

It reignited my Amy Adams crush...

Oh yes, both her and the other bird looked pretty hot. Loved those plunging necklines.

I found American Hustle really disappointing. It was like a Goodfellas spin-off from the makers of Happy Days.
Prisoners on the other hand... Holy shit that's a good film.

I thought it was an odd criticism - it's a martial arts film, of course it is all fighting. That's what martial arts films are. If you don't like the genre then that's fine, but I'm not sure it's a fair criticism of the film itself. It's sort of a bit like going to the ballet and coming away complaining that it was all just dancing.
I am a fan of the genre, I am just fonder of films with a little more dialogue and depth i.e. Seven Samurai, Crouching Tiger..., 13 Assassins, Yojimbo, Hero, Twilight Samurai, House of Flying Daggers, Harakiri etc.
I reckon it was a fair criticism.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Ong-Bak but at least its plot wasn't as threadbare as that of the The Raid. -

Hobbit 2 turned out to be quite enjoyable, not as slow as the first part thankfully.
Enjoyed it, forum passim, not sure of the CGI look. Would like to see IMAX, reckon the under the mountain scenes will be amazing.

Started my alphabet 52 of movies.
My A was The Abyss, ended up watching the extended cut, knocking on 3 hours. ParryWife did not like.
I fear she may make me watch Australia in retaliation. D:I like this idea. Might try it with Clara. Though I feel she'll make me watch mainly musicals.

Saw American Hustle tonight. Really enjoyed it.....

Yeah, it's good, had a lovely sepiaish seventiesness about it, plus decent story and acting.

I'm not sure who I love more.... Jennifer Lawrence or Amy Adams. I might even love Christian Bale for that chest hair / medallion look, combined with epic belly. Strong.

Jennifer Lawrence = one hot housewife. So much so I struggled to believe Bale could have his eye on Amy Adams.
Did you guys not find it all a little... silly? Like, the costumes a big over-egged and the characters a bit cartoonish etc? I struggled to really care about any of them to be honest because I found everything a bit daft.

^ I kinda thought that was the point, tho' having lived through the 70s it really was like that...
Watched Enough Said and Hobbit 2 last night... Both great...
James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were both superb, I lol'd all the way through... The Hobbit 2 was as expected, good stuff...

I was looking at downloading enough said, I wasn't going to bother but will do now.

Christian bale is amazing the American hustle. His body morphing is unbelievable (remember The machinist ) and yes difficult to choose between the lead women. Loved the convoluted plot and it was very very funny especially for those of us who have lived through the 70s. Yes TS is right it was like that. Comb~overs and hair rollers. And fab soundtrack

Watched Rush today. I expected to hate it. It was ace. Just a brilliantly executed action film based on an incredibly compelling true story. Would watch again.

I saw Inside Llewyn Davis on Thursday. Very well executed film, but very downbeat. Not the Coen Brothers' best work by a fair bit, but definitely worth watching.

Really glad I sat down and watched this last night after being tipped off about it, A Separation (2011); an exceptional Iranian film that tackles life, religion, politics and heartbreak. Full film here:

I saw A Separation when it came out and I had mixed feelings. I liked it, but I'm not sure it's the masterpiece many make it out to be. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. I struggled in places.
This is just my opinion, but I think there's a temptation to place this kind of cinema on a pedestal because of its perceived 'worthiness' or exoticism. I found A Separation to be a beautiful, well acted film but the plot took forever to unfold and felt drab all the while. I wouldn't watch it again.
I've noticed that this belief is akin to white supremacy in film circles.
We had a Godfather marathon the other night, great stuff... Really enjoyed American Hustle, very funny indeed...
