  • Padmé Amidala. As much as you ever need to know about Portman's range and versatility.

    She's the female Brad Pitt.

    Even Pinnochio is less wooden.

  • Brad pitt was awesome in Mr and Mrs Smith surely?

  • I quite like him in Inglourious Basterds.

  • She is *the *pretend actor.

Although I'm watching a series of 24 at the moment, and Tony Armeda hasnt changed expression for 8 hours. Its driving me nuts.

Kinda concerned looking through my eyebrows in a judging way face.

    AAAAAAhhhh!

  • Pinnochio

    'Pinocchio'

  • Pinny Coco Hoe.

  • She is *the *pretend actor.

Most of the major stars of the last twenty years have comparable levels of lack of ability. The problem is that in acting you actually have to give yourself up and act as if you're someone else. That rather jars with the concept of stardom, and very few manage to reconcile the two things.

  • Arrrgggh it was Tedious Wanky Fucking Shitballs! Ok riddle me this, why did NOBODY even mention cloning? In 2027?! Why do The Fishes chase them down to get the baby? What are they going to do if they get it? Not explained, at all. The scene where the soldiers and everybody stop shooting at the sight of...... A baby? It's been eighteen years and no one has conceived, and yet somebody does.... randomly? And the world goes to shit? For what reason?

Possibly one of the worst films I've ever sat through

I'm no critic and have the analytical mind of a 12 year old sniffing glue and I can answer that.
Cloning? While we've made many scientific breakthroughs, it's still pretty tough to make a full sized baby. You think we'll be able to do while society is on the cusp of a complete breakdown?
Chased down for baby? Easy. Power, influence and control. Lord of the Flies conch style.
Stopping soldiers? Ever see a woman get on the bus with a pram? Everyone makes way, now multiply that by a shit load of soldiers some of who have never even seen what a human baby looks like. It's like going into a crowded room holding a working Lightsaber.
Somebody suddenly makes a baby? Well...somebody suddenly realised that eating too Sugar gives you diabetes. Genetic mutation man.

As for the world going nuts? If you looked up and an asteroid was heading for Earth, what would you do? Go wash your car?

It's a "what If" scenario, it's not going to pander to your every question. I'd say engage your mind, but it seems you have, only in the opposite direction. If you feel like picking near non-existent holes in everything you watch as some sort of basis for criticism, then that's on you. It's called Science "fiction" for a reason.

I for one, am gonna go re-watch it in 1080 multiple times to burn it into my retina.

  • I'd ensure I return my library books if an asteroid is on the way. There's probably a special place in hell for people that don't return borrowed goods.

Then I'd go and watch Melancholia for a bit of life imitating art.

We have our fair share of folks who are capable of stepping outside of themselves in spite of their fame or glamour. Proper actors as it were: (Literally off the top of my head) Charlize Theron, Michael Shannon, Michael Douglas, Tom Cruise (yes - even tom), Suzan Sarrandon, Julianne Moore.... people who are prepared to retard or disregard their image for the sake of craft.

  • It occurs to me that if I were to really go to town on the above list many of my choices would be women. Particularly women over 40. I wonder whether this is a result of the lack of intelligent or generous scripting for women and the fact that those who take their art seriously have to target really awesome opportunities and commit wholly to a project to get anything done that isn't patronising drivel? Women have to announce their 'sincerity' in time to maintain their career through what the studio system see as twilight years, whereas the Clooneys of this world get to maintain poise and goof off at will. A woman in Hollywood has to be more lateral in her approach if she takes filmmaking seriously and wants to continue her relationship with it.

    Unfair.

  • Conclusion: Portman is very possibly going to find life harder than Jake Gyllenhaal for example.

  • Watching Children of Men at the cinema was a "mind blown" type scenario for me. Loved it. FUCK YOU, 8Ball. Right in the face.

  • I say it with love.

  • 'Pinocchio'

    Not when I write it.

  • Iwhereas the Clooneys of this world get to maintain poise and goof off at will.

    Kind of;

  • I watched Oblivion the other day. Not a bad scifi film I guess. But 5m minutes in, I figured out the whole plot. When this was confirmed 80% in I turned it off.

True, unfortunately. And often end up playing mums/grandmas while male characters go off with younger female characters. Ergh.

Anybody seen Clooney's Nespresso ads while we're at it? HAHAHA he doesn't even need the money.

  • ...more flips and about turns of direction than a drunken moth

    Heh!

You missed one of the best things about the movie - the end title music!

  • it's a movie, not a quiz show.

  • Filth is good - would watch again - McAvoy acts his socks off

Then I feel bad for you Son......I got 99 problems but watching Children of Men again ain't.....er.....one

  • Saw 'Runner, Runner' over the weekend. Watchable, not amazing, not crap either. Not to long, wait for the DVD though.
