  • I thought the Hurt Locker was really not that good, certainly woefully lower quality than the Oscar awards it won would have you believe. Just standard gung-ho American bullshit.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The film is about an guy struggling with an addiction, not about the war. You make it sound like an action film.

  • un prophete is a great film, very subtle but powerful.

I must have missed his personal struggle amid all the action scenes. The guy struggling with his addiction is a selfish prick, and the end of the film cheapened whatever intimate psychological portrait they were trying to build up: bomb suit on, walking in slo-mo like a hero, loud rock music, death or glory shit. I know most people seem to think its a wonderful anti-war film, honest depiction of the war, blah blah, who knows, maybe it is honest, but I have to agree with Robert Scheer's assessment: it's "an enlightened Rambo story: War is hellish but entertaining". Review over, its just my opinion, nothing more!

  • are you the street gentleman that was pushing the flat- tyred improvised bike- golf- trolley ensemble down the prom the other day? impressed me.

  • I thought The Hurt Locker was quite a good film. Really didn't like the look of Avatar, so haven't even watched it yet!

I watched Brothers last night and thought that film was quite good, depicting another side of war.

  • Avatar - watched first 5 mins, that was enough - off!

  • I didn't like it either. Ok, visually is something new and very good, but scrip and history were rubish

New world record there mate, was it really that bad?

That's exactly what I'd heard from other people as well.

On a side note, just bought Leon and Role models on my lunch, 2 very good films.

Can anyone recommend any very good war films?

I just thought 'I've seen this all before'

  • If you're not watching Avatar in 3D and at least on some fat widescreen don't bother.

If you are, you'll probably enjoy it. Just don't go looking for a plot/acting (cept from Weaver).

  • Avatar - watched first 5 mins, that was enough - off!

cut to about 90 mins in. It's worth it for the finale. In 3D of course.

My flatmate saw it in 2D and thinks it's the best film she's ever seen. what a loser

  • Zombieland - hella fun. Very very silly and very entertaining - Bill Murray's in it too in probably the best scene of the movie.

A Serious Man - felt pretty meh about this one. Not a waste of two hours of my life, but not the best use of it either. It's almost worth watching just for the Sy Abelman character, played by Fred Melamed.

I Love you Phillip Morris - reminded me just how good Jim Carrey can be. The film seems pretty ridiculous, then you realise it's based (moderately accurately) on a true story.

    Gonna revisit Jacob's Ladder now...

Speaking of Bill Murray, has he ever been in a film where he's simply awful in?

  • Slightly off topic and probably deserving of a Wanted Ad, but does anyone know anywhere that hires animals?

    Not Tynan.

    Or does animatronics?

Have looked through The Knowledge but it's just giving me pet dogs. I want a small pig that can sit and behave when it's told to.

  • Saw Predators yesterday. Great B-movie action.
