I watched Gimme Shelter (1971) last night. It's a documentary made with footage from the Altamont Free Concert.
It's much better than Shine a Light (2008 and made by Martin Scorsese) which was like an X Factor performance directed by your dad IMO.
Is this the one where people Die? if so I though it was ace

Space 1999?
Blade Runner?
(But I think you mean Total Recall anyway)

Yes. One homicide and three accidental deaths.
Four births were reported during the event.

You're entitled to your opinions, but what is this book of which you speak ? 2001 is based on a short story b Clarke called The Sentinel and that finishes at the point where they uncover the monolith on the moon. There is a later book, but is based totally on the screenplay anyway.
It is still worth reading the book, as it greatly clarifies what is only alluded to in the film. The ideas which Clarke develops in it go further in some ways and some of the philosophy behind them is explained. I think it is one of the few science fiction books which is a must-read, even though I also think that its ideas are simply wrong. :)

After watching the film I sat there for a minute before realising there was no way I could understand it and did some research and read that the book The Sentinel explains most of the ideas in the film but didn't realise the end wasn't included. It was pretty much the ending that threw me. And the periods of black screen with music playing over the top? Enjoyed it all the same
Kubrik season local Picturehouse, have Dr Strangelove tonight, never seen it all the way through
Brilliant film I loved Peter Sellers in it

I'll give it a read if I can find it. It's definitely one of the most philosophical films I've seen and a surprising amount of the science is correct unlike other sci-fi's I've seen

Saw the trailer for On The Road. That bint with one facial expression from Twillight is in it. Well that's it ruined already. Also it was very distracting to see Ian Curtis from Joy Division being in America somehow.

On the road - as in Kerouac?

Yeah I can't imagine why they would even want to make that into a film? Book to film conversions are generally not successful. I can think of some real howlers - Catch 22 a prime example of missing the point by a country mile. Watchmen and V for Vendetta were valiant attempts but felt hollow compared with their graphic origins. Let the right one in was ok, and I guess the Rings trilogy are pretty good representations
There is a book that was made into a film in the 80's but I don't think it went anywhere really......something about Androids.......I don't think it's particularly highly thought of.....
