It'll be OTT and terrible. How incarnations of this dreary epic must we be subjected to in a lifetime?

How many? Dozens but the book is best of course.
It's a classic love story, a coming of age story, a exploration of morality, of the wrangles between conscience and passion, of gender relations etc. Every woman secretly wants to find their Mr. Rochester think.
But that's just my take on it. :) -

But that's just my take on it. :)I thought everyone just wanted to not have to deal with the classic love story because it's all a bit too much of a cliché. I also assumed that the whole coming of age thing was mythical and that explorations of morality happened at school disco's or in pub car parks. The wrangles between conscience and passion don't exist out in reality, but are pointlessly maintained by epically awful books like this one. In all honesty, I think every woman just wants a nice genuine bloke.
Can't you tell that I had to do this for GCSE English?

I've never read 'Jane Eyre', partly because I once tried an atrocious seminar on '19th century women writers'. I lasted for three weeks before I decided it was unbearable (not the fault of the writers, I would have you know). Sadly, it's left some considerable gaps in my reading, which will one day be filled.

^ This will not do. I think I'm going to have to get you boys over for a tutorial, after which we can all go and see Jane Eyre. That includes you James.

Not a chance, never read the book or seen any of the films and don't ever plan on doing so. 'Coming of age' stories are shit (imo)

I saw TTSS last night night and although it's very beautifully shot and achieves a wonderfully sullen atmosphere, I just didn't enjoy all that much. I don't know why really, I guess I just thought the story was unremarkable.

I felt similarly. I thought it was a bit self reverential, too heavily stylised and pensive that it ended up being one paced.
Felt a lack of tension really. I liked it otherwise.

Sorry, I'm afraid I'm not watching a film of a book until after I've read the book. Unbreakable rule. :)

Right, I'm in a movie fix.
I've got a mate coming over on Saturday night.
It's going to beer, snacks, ribs and wings.
My mate is a movie fan but he's not above any sort of movie i.e he's not an arthouse type snob.
I'm looking for two movies. I'm thinking comedy, action, maybe horror, maybe sci-fi. Nothing to cerebral but nothing dumbed-down either.
It turns out Mrs Lucifer will be there too, so I don't want anyone getting raped by a strimmer on screen.
Suggestions?
I think im gonna watch Friday, since it's Sunday. I need a laugh.
