I’ve only seen ‘The Name of the Rose’ once, late at night on holiday at my gran’s in the 90s. Been very keen to watch it again as I remember it being great, but it’s not on any streaming service, and DVD/Blue Ray are relatively expensive and imports - there must be some UK rights issue.
Anyway, spotted this while idly browsing the listings and can’t wait for it. I must have been to PCC 50 times, but never the upstairs screen before.

Similarly, The Abyss is a movie that’s not easy to see these days. From what I gather Cameron has more or less disowned it. DVDs are more freely and cheaply available but the transfer is astonishingly shit.

Just download a restored special edition? Looks pretty good.

The Name of the Rose
One of those films i remember as it regularly featured in the video club at the back of my gran's Radio Times in the 80's. From memory it would be closer to the top left of the page with other grown up stuff like Witness, Killing fields and The Mission. Bottom right was for Porky's, Maniac cop and Emmanuelle.

I've not got around to watching the Jodorowsky doc yet, maybe that will fill the Dune hole in this evening's schedule.

The Name of the Rose is great. Just like every other film Ron Perlman has ever starred in.

The Name of the Rose
Available on newsgroups, if you do that sort of thing

Have you seen it?

The Equaliser 3 - if you liked the previous two (and why wouldn’t you?), then this doesn’t disappoint.
Basically, we’ve all seen these sorts of films before but it’s well done and is pleasantly not bloated in terms of run time, just gets on things efficiently (like Denzel). Plus Italy is stunning.

The Name of the Rose was just as good if not better than I remembered. Brilliantly entertaining film. Here’s all the interesting stuff - essay and interview with screenwriter: https://lostreels.co.uk/name%20of%20rose.html

I know its maybe a bit low brow, but I really, really enjoyed Bottoms. Maybe a bit too US-centric humor wise for a UK audience, but I thought it was hilarious.

The Power of the Dog had me gripped last night. Excellent stuff

Rye Lane won't be troubling my rom-com top 5 but was entertaining enough and i enjoyed the SE London scenery.

Watching Top Boy last night got me thinking about the relative realism of these types of things and this always comes to mind as what must be the most realistic gangster movie.
Looks like you can watch it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xndG6LFv5v4

Edge of Tomorrow is on Netflix. Watched for the 3rd time yesterday. Such a cool film

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it when I watched it last year. My expectations were very low but it's actually pretty well done and enjoyable!
In fact, suggestions for anything similar for a knackered, post wedding Sunday evening watch?

Watched it again recently, still very good

anything similar
Nowhere near as good but i didn't hate The Tomorrow war if it's just to get you through a hangover.

Enjoyed Barbarian last night. Plenty of "why the fuck would you do that?" moments but good fun and less than 2 hours. Bill Skarsgard is very "on here".

I enjoyed Barbarian as well. It felt like a shitty early 2000s style horror done quite well. Nothing groundbreaking but pretty fun!

Ah, that's not a bad shout actually! Shame about Chris Pratt though.

Watched Collateral the other day. One of those films I vaguely heard interesting reviews of at the time but missed. Added to the list of surprisingly good films with Tom Cruise in, although Jamie Foxx does most of the heavy lifting.
I’d been postponing re-watching (finishing) Lynch’s until after Dune 2 in a couple of months, but given that’s delayed now until March, I’ll probably stay up late one evening this week and get the DVD on.
You seen the doc about Jodorowsky’s? Loved that.
