In The Mouth of Madness
Love this one, not watched it for ages tho. Definitely going to get a rewatch soon.

Is Cocaine Bear all I need to know?

If you want to understand the specific and detailed plot nuances then I guess you could watch the trailer too

Love most of JCs work.
The Fog is another in that "not staring Kurt Russell / isn't Halloween" tier that gets over looked.

After watching Les Miserables again on Saturday night we watched Athena last night - Netflix..
Previous reviews were spot on

I’m home alone this week so going to do the quadruple with re-runs of Divines and La Haine.

Also watched Que Viva Mexico recently - Netflix. Imagine the most non-PC, offensive film with every Mexican stereotype you can conjure up and that’s only the half of it. It’s got some serious points to make but it’s full of laugh out loud moments too.
It’s a strange film in that none of the characters are particularly likeable but it’s still very engaging.

Ziggy Stardust 50th Anniversary Addition
Great to see it on the big screen. The panel discussion before was a bit meh. The Jeff Beck inclusion was the only difference from the original except for the re-mastering and 4k.The music content is absolutely superb, what a tight band. To my ears not a missed note. It took me right back to my youth.
It was supposed to be a one off, but think they are doing another showing on the 7th.

Well this fucking sucks. https://deadline.com/2023/07/empire-cinemas-administration-closures-job-losses-sales-1235431571/
Hopefully it's bought by Everyman or Picture House. Makes me cherish The Castle even more.

Picturehouse are owned by Cineworld who have also just gone into administration in the UK....

It’s got a battersby from Corrie hasn’t it?
Yes you say that one post later. Fuck me. -

Fuck me.
If it'll make you feel better.

Next film club night is me putting one on, it's the fifth one and and the pub owner and club founder have both done two. I had a bit of a short list but looked through all my posts on this thread the other night and realised I'd forgotten about how good Thunder Road was, and it's possibly a little less marmite than a couple of my other choices. So if you're near Levy on 24th and want to watch Jim Cummings acting his little socks off and have a beer and a chat after, come along to the Tallyrand at 1930.

I'm totally brain dead after a hectic week and a tough (for me) ride today. Any suggestions for something mindless but enjoyable to watch tonight? Thinking along the lines of stupid 2000s action/sci fi.

Any of the Riddick films would do, I guess.
-
• #19966
Haha, Chronicles Of Riddick was my backup if that question didn't yield any more appealing answers. S.W.A.T. is also on the cards.

Right, so I was right not to say "Wall-E". Iron Man or Hot Fuzz come to mind.

Oh wow - by coincidence I put on Pitch Black last night.

I watched that a few months ago. Good fun, the CGI has not aged well at all. Windows 95 level.

I can't stand any of the Marvel stuff but Hot Fuzz or Sean of The Dead aren't a bad shout!

I was surprised by how much my disbelief was suspended, that’s for sure!
I put it on after finding I had to pay for some later action Sci-Fi: Edge of Tomorrow, although not sure why I fancied giving that a go again, other than I found it a lot of fun.
An older Sci-Fi recco that I often rewatch is Outland. This book I bought today got me thinking of that.

Starship troopers for pure daftness

Edge of Tomorrow is great! Very surprised how much I enjoyed it.

I like a lot of Verhoeven stuff but for some reason I just don't like Starship Troopers. I've tried a few times but never enjoy it!
Which is... not as bad as season 2.
