If you like Plan B/Ben Drew then his ‘Paint It Blacker’ bootleg album is worth a listen

Thanks, had listened, prefer his story telling songs. Not sure how you would describe them , but more Strickland Banks.
I'm listening to Ren at the moment, clearly influenced by Plan B -

Past Lives…. Just brilliant in every way.

I did a culture and went to a Quentin Dupieux double bill last night. English names were Deerskin and Smoking causes coughing. Both were really fucking good, super weird, very funny. I'd highly recommend either.

Spinning Gold - it was disappointing, generally badly acted with a cheap looking production. For a movie made by the the boss’s son to pay homage to his dad it doesn’t do a good job, he come off like an LA version of Hesh out of the Sopranos. Some scenes are just cringe-worthy bad.
Such a shame, this really could have been a fantastic movie.

Thanks for the rec. just watched this and enjoyed a lot, also.

Spiderverse was great until it basically stopped half way through a sentence and said "To Be Continued". I was gutted because I was enjoying it so much.

I saw Wes Anderson's new film last night, Astroid City.
As a fan girl I am biased but I loved it. I was a bit worried before as I didn't enjoy his last film, the French Dispatch. This was a return to form for me, great cast and a fun story.

That's good to hear! I hated The French Dispatch but he's got some bangers. Will probably check it out.

Lol totally. I was so psyched up for a big finale battle, then they went full Empire Strikes Back on us. I loved it though, felt very true to comics. Roll on 2024…
You here there’s multiple versions being shown at the cinema? All with slightly different changes in the scenes.
-
• #19937
Ha, so just roll the dice and go to a different cinema and you might get a different version? Not sure I enjoyed it that much...

I dreamt that Asteroid City was Oppenheimer put through a Wes Anderson AI filter
-
• #19939
Lol, no way I’d do that either. Very cool they’ve done it though.

Went to see The Last Rider last week about Greg LeMond and the 1989 tour.
10/10 would recommend, and it sits as a great follow-up to Slaying the Badger which mainly covers 1986.
Some of the archive footage was a bit blown out on a big screen but worth it for the overall experience including audio and more recently filmed bits. Still as gripping despite knowing the outcome.

Asteroid City.
Lavish, sumptuous, epic sets, great clothes, mystery watches, great cast. Understand it ? No. Story within a story, within a story, probably. It's Wes Anderson. I loved it.

Raining Stones at the local film club, spots of ropey acting but a nice bit of early 90s northern grit from Ken Loach, slightly cheerier than Kes, set round these parts (just outside Manchester) and a few funny bits.

Ricky Tomlinson is great in it!
-
• #19944
Him and Les Battersby are a good double team. You can see a bit of the Royal Family character coming to life in a few scenes.

Ricky is fantastic in Riff Raff too.

Went to see Indy 5 last night, I wanted to love it but it’s just a bit daft borderline gets stupid, predictable and nowhere near as good as reviews were saying.
Sometimes even more if we want more it’s not always the best idea.

John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness - bought this (wtf, who buys a film!?) from a free £5 of prime credit that Amazon gave me as part of a random promo. Had wanted to watch it for a long time. It's not up there in Carpenter's god tier work, but it's definitely in amongst his B+ stuff. Spooky church! Green goo! Satanic Alien zombies! Alice Cooper! Great fun, would buy again.
Also watched Man of Steel after watching the trailer for the new series of the Witcher, and needed to scratch that Henry Cavill itch. Henry Cavill is hot. Man of Steel is not.

Love Prince of Darkness! So Eighties and definitely has a spooky aura

I've not got round to that yet. I watched In The Mouth of Madness recently though and enjoyed that a lot. Also a B tier Carpenter but good fun. Sort of felt like a Carpenter directed feature length episode of the X Files based on a Lovecraft story.
Really enjoyed Guy Ritchie's The Convenant. The most un Guy Ritchie Guy Ritch Film, not at all what I expected.
