I rate the ending of melancholia because of the spoiler! giant fucking planet smashing into the Earth which is absolutely terrifying. I haven't been able to look at the moon in the same way since. Fuck me. I stopped and re-watched the ending again immediately after.
LVT is terrific, but the OTT stuff (Idiots, Dancer in the Dark [although I haven't seen it since it came out... But I doubt I'll ever watch it again]) isn't for me. Breaking the Waves, Dogville, The Kingdom - terrific. I also got really excited by Dogme 95. #lofi4lyfi

Amy was very good, they did a great job finding all that mass of footage and putting it together to produce a tragic story well told.

Melancholia was brilliant. It really stuck with me and the ending was great.

American Sniper. 1/10 for having no discernible plot and Bradley Cooper managing to make the guy seem like a total dickhead.
-
• #12081
why did you even watch it?

The guy was a total dickhead. Probably even more so than Bradley Cooper.

It seemed surprising that he was portrayed as such though, given the wild propaganda aspect of it. Maybe to some people he didn't come across as a twat, which is concerning.

I don't know why we persisted! Everyone was on their phones after about 5 mins and complaining about how boring it was at regular intervals.

Gotta say that slo-mo introductory sequence is so awesome as well.
Like looking at excellent photos which are breathing. -

In the "messed up kids movies" category "the brave little toaster" isn't bad. OK, the animation isn't great, but it has some nice dark moments.
Watership Down is still the most brutal kids movie I've seen though. The warren extermination scene... BRRRRRRRRRRRR
Lars Van Trier has nothing on that :p -

Ha ha no surprise. Saw trailer and thought WTF there's nothing of substance in this souffle.
Not even up to date movie minima.

Enjoyed the film heaps. Very different to the book, which is a very good read (five handlebars from me anyway).
His work works for me, but yeah sometimes you wonder if its not a high brow emo fest, a sort of high class tearjerker.
I do rate the ending of Melancholia though with the depressed character the only one being able to face reality / offer a futile gesture of hope.
