  • Harry Rowland and Bricklanebikes word, i take what they say simply coz i don't know much so...when i was gonna get velocitys for my build and was told that Mavics are better i listened, Mr Rowland said tha the prefers to work on Ambrosio so makes a better job on 'em...could be wrong, hope not...lol!

  • I'd always heard that deep Vs were somewhere near the top of the range for strength. having said that I have ridden seven shades of shit out of my cxp22s and they've held up perfectly. That's probably got as much to do with a quality wheelbuild though, courtesy of the North East's premier titanium bolt outlet.

  • rattlebag - are the eyelet's on your cxp22 totally flush, or where the rim is profiled are they raised a bit? just wondering, because that's how mine are. other than that they're fine.

  • Dont quite know what you mean, the eylets are raised above the inside of the rim, that's what makes them eyelety

  • yeah, they are meant to do that, it stops the nipple ripping through the rim.

  • hippy Comfort for tampons, durability for wheels

and make sure you do not confuse one for the other.

  • a wheel shaped tampon. comfort AND durability?

  • A few months ago Condor had a carbon track frame in their window with the nicest rims on it I have ever seen. Can't remember what they were tho :(

  • Campag wheels? I seem to recall them showing bikes with Bora or some other deep profile rim..

  • Tampon-shaped wheels.. loads of grip, puncture-proof..

    quick release..

  • Applicator?

  • hippy These? http://www.cbike.com/campy.htm

Maybe but without the logos on them.

  • Wasn't it just a pair of Pista's?

The logo was on there for "Pista" and "Campagnolo", but in a much more slender font at a much smaller size.

  • Hi there,

I'm new to all this at the moment but have been an avid admirer of fixed gear bikes for a while now. I picked up an old Dawes 1970's frame a while ago and have had it resprayed at Witcombs a nice baby blue colour. At the moment I run a 10 speed but want to turn it into fixed. Is the best place to take it to Brick Lane bikes? Or can someone reccommend somewhere else in London?
Also where can I get hold of some Velocity Aeroheads?

check out 53-12 and call them up to see if they've got some aeroheads in stock.

as for turning your bike into fixed, ask your questions here and convert it yourself. or if you're going to bring it into brick lane bikes, ask if you can watch while they're doing it.

  • Brixton cycles and Brick lane bikes are your best bet for fixie stuff. But you could also DIY quite easily especially with an old 10spd frame, but it can be quite frustrating.

See: http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed-conversion.html and http://sheldonbrown.com/deakins/how-to-fixed-conversion.html (but I wouldn't go the suicide hub route, get a proper track hub)

http://www.53-12.com and Bricklane bikes are the best people to talk to about Velocity stuff.

    [Pretty much what Hovis said...]

  • Baring in mind what people have said about how ride quality/sturdiness is more down to the wheel build, would you reccommend splashing out on getting wheels built proffesionally? Not sure whether to get bricklanebikes to build my new wheelset (i'm thinking of velocities too) or to buy the bits individually and get some help doing it myself (that means you hovis!).

the first wheels that i built ended up being very sturdy. they were laced to open pro's and they're still going strong. if you are willing to get over the initial learning curve, i'd say build them yourself. getting it built, however, will save you the mistakes that you'll make.

again, if you need a hand, just let me know. i've actually built my own truing stand, and it works very well. i'll be building up a new set next week, i think. white deep-vs to green hubs.

  • what hubs?

  • bought some milwaukee hubs from ben's cycles. they're anodized green.

  • How much were they? Aidan is stressing about hubs trying to find some reasonable price/decent quality ones. I was planning to just go with the standard systemEx offered on the bricklane velocity wheel build, but you've won me over to the build them myself idea so i might as well invest a little more now that i'm not worrying about build cost.

Oh yeah, I ask because aidan wants a green rear Deep V on his bike - a matching hub might be quite nice!

they were £50 for the pair (not including shipping). seem decent enough. flip-flop and they look pretty good. the first set of wheels i built were systemex and they're alright for the money.
    Hubs (blue)

make sure you get a good spoke key and measure your rims/hubs correctly so you can get the right length spokes. i think there's a thread here about spokes or wheelbuilding with a link to a good excel spreadsheet.
