  • thanks, good tip for maxing the lug-life. I am basically happy with fairly cheap diadoras (fit me really well) but apart from being hard to come by, they also wear down, I'm on a pair a year/18mo at the moment and the uppers are still in really good nick. I can't bear to throw them away so I'm accumulating somewhat useless pairs of shoes... it seems so obvious to be able to replace the outer sole, since MTB shoes are intended to be walked in (I don't think I do excessive/unusual walking in mine).
I think I'd rather buy a more expensive pair of shoes, and pay each year for new parts, than to keep buying cheap shoes that can't be maintained. it's a shame as I really like my diadoras, aesthetically speaking (they are a nice shade of blue).

seems the Eagle SRS are carbon, and the spare parts are specific to those - I have sent an email to Sidi to ask them about compatibility for the Spiders, I think I'm leaning towards them. seeing as there's no mention of SRS on the SidiCafe listing for the Five XC, I think the CRC and JEJames descriptions are errors...

I am so confused by the too many options available :/

  • get some shoo goo or sugru and build the soles back up again.

  • good plan... might pop out and buy some now!

  • Fizik are nice. Lovely build quality. My ten pence worth

  • Shoo Goo doesn't really work. It just scuffs off, even if you're really careful about prep. Better suited to plugging little holes or doing larger expanses of sole. Haven't tried Sugru yet. Will probably resort to attempting it at some point...

  • Got some +++ Specialized BG foot beds for my dominators. God damn, why did I not do this a year ago when I first got them!? So supportive for my stupidly high arches.

Hey Jake! Just got some +++ myself but got the same size as my Sidi's are e.g 42. Have just realised that Sidi's are silly sized/not real world...what size footbeds did you get compared to Sidi size?

  • Anyone know who stocks the Spesh footbeds in London? Ta

  • I haz 45s and I got 45s. They fit mine just fine poots. You haz dominators?

  • Condor^^ prob cycle surgery too.

  • since there is no thread for just cycling shoes, I m going to post it here;
The Fizik R3 Shoe; OMFG such an amazing shoe! Light, stiff and good looking too they say it's made out of kangaroo leather (whatever that means) this is i think my first nice shoe (graduating from Shimano R088 which will be up for sale soon) this is by far the best cycling shoe I have ever worn. Bought right here on the forum for measly £80 BNIB. The fit is perfect, first ever italian thing that is true to size. Love it.

Jebeh what is this footbed you are talking about?

PS: I never had Sidis, I bet they are good too.

    sample sale

Cheers for the link! Just ordered these: http://www.sidicafe.co.uk/sidi-sales-sales-sample-mtb-dragon-3-carbon-srs-vernice-white-blue-cream-size-42.html

Happy early birthday present to me! I'm a UK 7-7.5 I just hope they fit..

Cadence Performance in Crystal Palace do footbeds and all sorts of orthotics and bike fitting stuff. Worth a visit if you're ever in SE London.

  • ah dang Caz...
after "leaning" towards the Spiders, they were sold out that evening when I tried to buy. so I decided against. and bought some Sugru.
but now thinking about an even pricier pair... now leaning towards Eagle 6 carbon. cripes!

  • Do iiiiit ;-) sparkly posh carbon shoes ftw!

They are good indeed. I have to say the fiziks did catch my eye, I will be getting road shoes fairly soon, and if I don't get matching Sidis, I might get the fiziks.

Specialized make foot beds that actually offer support, unlike the Sidi ones, which are utter tripe. They meant that on my 92 mile ride today, I got no hot spots which I used to get after abut 30 miles.

  • just pushed the button on some patent ver-nee-ché finish, carbon-soled footwear.
hefty discount, still winced at checkout.
looking foward to seeing what all the fuss is about...

oh, also ordered some FreeSole from amazon, since the sugru seems like it will be too soft. wonder what I can silicon-mod with it instead?

  • have to say - 2 weeks of using the specialized insoles instead of Superfeet: they are pretty shit in comparison - hardly any support at the back of the foot and the arch.

It's a shame that superfeet greens are so hard that they produce searing pain under my big toe and ball of my foot. Looks like I'm getting some custom jobs made.

  • dan, have a look at the e soles I posted further up. They have been great for me and are customisable.

  • I've been using the full sole orthotics that my physio recommended- £25 from Boots, and they've made my previously slightly too large Sidi Ergo II's fit perfectly.

    They are these ones:

I previously had the Spesh ones in there, and compared to them the Orthaheel ones are much better.

  • footbed recommendations are probably about as useful as saddle suggestions

you need to find the ones that address your particular issues

How do these work, do you mould them?

I'd like to see the footbeds that address all your issues.

Nah, they're designed to correct "standard" issues that people have, along with providing support and so forth.

Might be a terrible idea for your to use them, of course...

  • So they can correct pronation and supination all at once?
