  • think im going to be in the area tomorow look out for me

  • righ it's not raining but i'm still up for food, then i'll come along but won't be playing today...

  • Polo polo polo polo polo polo

  • I'm up for playing

  • Just got up. Not meant to be raining at all today. Maybe pass by polo at one-ish see who is there and then think about going for food?

  • rakan what size cog do you want 15 - 20 ?

  • 20 is good!

  • ok i'll have it at polo today

  • I'll be around 130 - 2 ish. Hopefully the rain will hold off that long!
I've got 3 mallets and at least one ball, maybe two...

  • I'm at euston at the moment will head down in a bit and see who is around got a mallet with me.

  • on my way overlook for my good self and lady

  • I got there about 2pm and there was no one there..... t'was just after the rain, so I assumed you all ducked for cover.... shame though as it was fine for the rest of the day

  • Fun day today! The level is getting better - all we need is proper Polo bikes, some good mallets, and stuff to stop the balls from escaping.

    I miss our referee Flow.

  • I'm bruised and bashed all over, great fun today though.

  • I've been down to HH to check up on the polo bikes, right now I don't think we'll be able to get enough bikes operational to get a game going....I'm gonna make a list of what needs doing to them and take it from there....already have a couple of volunteers to help out...but might need some funding to save these historical machines....mallets were suffering from damp...but I've put them somewhere drier....will let you lot know.

  • next sunday, i'll be there

actually might have a play lol

  • Winston, that sounds awesome! I would be more than happy to volunteer myself to help get these bikes running. I have the necessary tools and skills and maybe some spare bits... funding on the otherhand, :(

  • is there nobody who would fund it? like some sort of organisation?
its an important part of cycling history! someone will throw money at the idea!
just need to find that someone

  • Yeah, there are funding bodies...my club seem to be pretty handy at getting grants and we're definitely going to look into it for the polo bikes.

  • i think we should get into contact with british cycling or VCL at HH velodrome and see if they'll be interested?
VCL themselves don't actually seem to have a lot of money though. they dont charge much money for membership and the track bike hire's actually sponsored.

or any of those big bike shops can sponsor it? i know none of us here are too fond of either evans or cyclesugery etc but they sure got loadsa cash

  • Sponsor the team? I will ask my boss, my director, and the guys in Sales/Marketing, but a sad sad company (which makes financial software) is less likely to get involved that some bleeding edge media outfit, right? come on the graphic designrs!

I can volunteer some mechanical skills (support role suits me till I can trackstand at least)

How much ££ are we talking? Would some online retailers pay for some street level exposure? dotbike?

It's peanuts really... lets get Ken livingstone involved - he's got loadsa money!

  • I've got a few guys together to do the mechanical audit...and my club is VCL and like I said they are pretty good at getting funding....the bikes have been there for as long as I can remember....ownership is not clear but VCL are the current guardians of HH and have, as such inherited guardianship of these bikes, so let's see if that route works.....if someone wants to bung wads of cash at it then let's talk! it must be understood that these bikes are already ancient (and rare)....we should be able to save them so that they can continue to be used for some years...but they're never gonna be "like new".

  • my friend (punkpixel, finally got him to register here!) told me he's going to do a job for a guy who restores steel frames. we might be able to see if that guy's interested in helping out?

by the by winston, what difference is there between a real polo bike and all the fixies we ride? any chance of posting a picture?

  • There are pictures on the first page of this thread... or 2nd.

  • ah right, quite a few. thanks rakan
