That colnago is mine, police dont seem to be able to do much. Its been for sale off and on for over a month now.

They seem to treat bike theft as an inconvenience and don't wish to know...
makes you feel that reporting the theft of your bike was a complete waste of time...
No wonder the basic pay has been cut down to £19,000... -

ring him up as a buyer, buy it and record the whole thing, then give it to the police,
alternatively, just call 999 outside his house,
alternatively, just beat him shitless and then call him an ambulance -

Have been debating ringing 999 outside his, then asking for a test ride and riding off.
Dont really want to get stabbed tho.

Anyone got a kevlar vest i can borrow?
-
• #9833
just get some metal panels, dont need kevlar, he doesnt have a diesel powered rotary knife.

• #9834
Shit can always go wrong...
Would be cool if I could get 20 or people waiting around the corner from the meeting point for a flash mob beating.
I would just test ride around the corner.
Anyone want to volunteer? £20 per head :)

100% sure its mine. Same wheels, front brake, brake cable and a rare colour. Frame was purchased here about 8 months ago.
It was for sale shortly after it was stolen then no adds for 3 weeks and now it's back. Its too obvious at that price its stolen so maybe he's having a hard time selling.

Have you tried the Cycle Task Force? I think they'd definitely be interested in that one, especially with repeat listings.

Arrange to meet him at the tube station, go to the nearest police station before you meet him and tell them the situation and that it is a stolen bike which you have reported already. Bring the proof that it's yours and print the advert, the police will be obliged to come with you.
When you see him get the officer to go over then you show up, if he makes a runner then they police will take it more seriously as you have snooped out a genuine bike thief for them. You will be safe and not risk getting messed up and there is a strong possibility that you will get your bike back.

Go along with some pepper spray and nunchucks and ask him nicely, or the whole plod thing isn't too daft. Maybe.
I'm still a bit bemused the Police don't want to get involved. Tbf I don't credit them with much efficiency, but how the suffering fuck do they not leap at a chance like this to nail the wrongun? I once sat down with the (then?) head honcho for the CTF (on the auspices of setting up a bike theft reporting website), and he gave the impression it was a few guys full time job to search gumtree for these sort of ads.
Silly idea - why don't you say your a journo writing a piece on Police bike theft inactivity, and present them with the evidence and ask for a quote to why they don't give much of a fuck?
