^ OMG That's great news.
How did you get it back? When I noticed it gone I really quickly made up that poster that I posted in my blog, my housemate emailed it to his mates and one of them saw it and recognised the bike when a dude turned up offering it for sale. He said it was a mates bike and being looked for, the guy settled to £20, said he'd bought it himself and needed the money back.
Basically, speed, get the word out quickly while the bike is still round the corner with the first thief, and not down a chain on the other side of London.
There were so many people after this one that it would have been very hard to ride it anywhere in London, ever. So thank you very much to those.
Glad to hear that T. Long time no see.
Thanks Will. The bad news is that the incompetent thief anglegrinded the lock off, and straight through the 0.4mm thick downtube. Sadly. Only discovered later in the day.
Long time indeed. Hope you're well.

Yes I'm going to speak to him.

Just seen a very suspicious looking ghost ride of a bicycle parked with a really rubbish lock at the start (west side) of Well Street. Be quick on recover as the potential thief is still about!
Red single speed Equipe.
Pic upload to follow...

judging by the build, it may actually be genuine, might be worth checking the frame serial number

Go for the BIN price, sell the wheelset and someone will have just picked a Merc frame up for £50

Hesitant to post this in here as it's entirely trivial wrt some of the posts above, and also just a rant.
I left the office at 2200 this evening and some f*ckwit had stolen both my rear lights. Although reasonably bright, they were trivially expensive and I can barely believe worth the effort from the thief who even unscrewed one of the brackets. But, it really bugs me as I normally have a c. 1hour commute on reasonably busy but dark and unlit roads and I'd have been terrified to cycle home without any lights on the back. If I'd have died I'd have been severely unimpressed!
The irony is that today I also forgot my keys for the first time in about a year, but the idiots never realised the whole bike was unlocked!

Hi guys,
apparently some asshole just stole my bike in front of my house (E15 4JW, 22nd of September, around 12:30-14.30). I've just moved to London few weeks ago and don't really know what to do. Bike had rear wheel locked to the frame with kryptonite mini, front wheel was locked with a kryptonite wire. Characteristics: Fixed gear (not a flip-flop), brakeless, recently changed fork (now it's silver, doesn't match white frame), Veganski pedal straps (not really popular outside of Poland), and bottom bracket started to make strange noises.
If anyone could help me get my bike back I would be really thankful.
Cheers

Welcome to London my friend. It truly is a shithole.....
Sorry to hear this. Read the what to do if your bike is stolen page for advice but looking at your bike and seeing that you are in E15 I would head down to brick lane market tomorrow morning about 10am and trawl around the pikey stalls on Sclater st for it. If you are lucky it will show up in the next couple of weekends. Also keep your eyes peeled on Chatsworth rd, Clapton and London fields E9. Good luck.

there also seems to be a market stall on kingsland road (between englefield road and middleton road - south of dalston junction) that has fuck loads of bike wheels for sale and the odd bike.
(apologies to the stall holder if they're genuine)

http://imgur.com/aZkudsorry the photo is so crap.
just found this in the hallway of my block e2 by broadway market.
they've cut the frame to take the bike and later strip the components.
it's depressing that not even having a decent lock saves you.those are two specialized drinks cages and an sram derailler.
pm me if that's yours and you want the exact location. -

Was on Bethnal Green Road a few hours ago when I saw a guy get off a bike at a corner shop opposite KFC...a ladies bike. He was about 30, stoned and in a track suit. Basic scumbag.
He went in to buy rizla so I waited outisde beside the bike in sight of him. He came out and I did the whole "who did you buy this bike off" spiel and said that it was my girlfriends (I, sadly, do not have a girlfriend).
He said he bought it from Brick Lane (he was clearly lying) for £60, an amount exactly half what I guessed he paid for it when he refused to say how much he bought it for...
I said the bike was stolen last week (from us) last week, and that the police were on the way (they weren't), that the bike was marked and he needed to wait.
He was talking shit about showing him a receipt and I just smiled and made it seem like I was happy for him to be talking as the 5-0 were on the way. When he started getting agitated I said I didn't want any trouble but I wasn't going to let him leave with the bike - it was mine, it was stolen and the police would sort. My favourite cousin then appeared and I was concerned that if anything kicked off and she got hurt I would be responsible...
I said to the thief I'd give him £20 for the bike and he'd have to eat his £40 loss, that all bikes sold on Brick Lane are stolen. That I was paying the £20 so I wouldn't have to wait for and deal with the police. He said fine, took the money and left.I've searched the thread for the bikes model name and found nothing. If anyone knows of a ladies two tone blue and white Raleigh with white saddle that was stolen PM me.
(I'm concerned about posting images/ description here in case someone false claims it, is that being silly?)

So you mugged some guy but compensated him slightly with £20?

Had my SS rear wheel stolen exactly there.

Good work if it's nicked though.

Effectively!
If he was telling the truth then it was stolen. If he bought a stolen bike fuck him.
If he was lying then it was stolen. If he stole the bike then he's made £20.So you mugged some guy but compensated him slightly with £20?
Good work if it's nicked though.

But you've now bought a stolen bike.
-
• #9323
The police are on their way, it's my girlfriends bike. I'll give you a fiver but you'll have to suck up the £15 loss.
-
• #9324
With the intention of giving it away! No good deed! I'll ask for the £20 but can't demand it.
Is there another website where people post images/ descriptions of their bikes I can look through? Also, how are bikes marked/ is there a specific process I can inform the police to check with them?

bikeshed.something
Spotted a Colnago Dream locked up with what looked like a shitty Poundland cable lock. It was so mad that I took a photo.
Just wondering if maybe it was stolen.
