  • Ffs!!

STATE EXACTLY WHICH LOCK(S) YOU WERE USING, AND
HOW LONG IT HAD BEEN LEFT (LOCKED UP) FOR.

Sorry about that JB, but give us some info. Cut through 15 Kryptos or a shoelace (double knot)?

  • Yeah thanks. I'm not expecting much from the CCTV or the cops but you never know. Ill keep trawling the usual sites.

Sorry Tim, it was only a cable lock. Not sure of the brand but it was a fairly hefty one.

  • Any views on whether this is a Langster?
I can't get through on the phone.

Doesn't look like it, seems like it has braze-ons.

  • It doesn't look anything like one but it is red so I guess it could be.

  • Thanks. I couldn't see any braze-ons.
    I'm just living in hope.
And the person selling it has sold a number of bikes on Gumtree as his own, which looked dodgy. Ah well.

  • Hi,
Back in March I posted about my bike being nicked in high bury: http://www.lfgss.com/post2785168-8155.html

So I met the guy the other night, with my bike, in the location it was stolen from. Really nothing I could do at the time, except take a photo and get his number. In hindsight I should have locked it up immediately and demanded his proof of purchase, but thats hindsight and i'm kicking myself now. He agreed to meet me to talk about it but funnily enough now he's not answering my calls. Been in touch with the police. Basically just asking for any advice and for people to keep there eyes open around highbury for it. I hope I haven't spooked him and he's got rid of it because this is a real chance to get it back. the only modification he has made was to put some shit handlebars on it. Being hand built I know all the components and everything is the same.

If anyone sees it, lock it up and i'll be there in five minutes.

Take a look at the original photo: http://www.lfgss.com/post2785168-8155.html

and then the one i took the other night (wrong format photo off shitty phone, won't work)

    Cheers

  • ^I see this bike about once a week on my morning commute to work, always same area (De Beauvoir square - Kingsland road) and time, same person, 100% same bike, even thought I've seen it before.

  • Thanks. I couldn't see any braze-ons.

Good luck anyway, hope you find it someday.

    Hi.
My mates bike got nickied on Saturday, at around 8pm, from inside thier house on Deptford High street.
It's 25 inch Carlton frame with 27inch wheels, all same as in [URL="http://www.lfgss.com/thread81701.html"]original sale thread here
only difference is that it now has very worn Cinelli Unicanitor leather saddle, and possibly Abus chain wrapped around top tube.
it wasnt locked, as was stored inside communal area, outside the flat.

  • Doktor P, heading south today so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I can't believe the last few hours I had yesterday evening and I have one of those incredible success stories which occasionally peppers this thread. Three months ago I had my bike nicked and last week, leaving work, I saw her in the spot where it had been stolen from, being pushed by a guy who was very charming and had nice shoes.

All I could do was get very emotional about the fact that he had my bike, insist it was mine, reel off a list of components and exclaim about the chances of seeing it back in the spot it was nicked from. I should've locked it up and been more forceful about it but i didn't, I got his number and a photo and really didn't know what to do. Over the next couple of days it really sunk in that of course it was my bike. It was hand built, I knew it inside out, the baby blue deep V's, even the yellow dust cap and I couldn't believe I'd let him walk off with it. I called him and text him but no answer. We googled his mobile number, managed to find an ebay page and you tube account account and started to join up the dots, hoping to eventually get an address.

Yesterday, about an hour after I posted on here asking for advice and for people to look out for the bike he called me, apologised that had missed all my other calls and wanted to meet up to return the bike. He gave me an address and I cycled there straight away and picked it up. He said he'd bought it from Brick Lane.... He handed it right over.

Doktor P, your description of the location was spot on, and with that information I would've been able to run into him again. Thanks for your help. Four months later, she's back where she should be.

  • shweet!

  • excellent news :-)

  • ^^^great success story! I have a feeling his conscience finally pricked him to return your comms.

  • Sweet!

I miss seeing it chained up on Highbury corner! Was one of those constants that made my days make sense...

  • My flatmate heard a bunch of kids arguing over a stolen mountain bike then stashing it in some bushes near our house (E2 Brick Lane area). When they left she went out and grabbed it.

It's a well-used Subaru frame that has been sprayed grey and black with rattlecans. Worn seat. Bright yellow sticker on headtube. DIY-shop chain and padlock through the wheels and frame.

Probably a long shot but If anyone has any idea who's it is, tell them to get in touch.

    we'll be back :D

  • Thea, I remember asking about it all those months ago. A huge congratulations - so happy for you! Did he make you pay for it though?

  • make you

?! No way! If anything I'd wallet slap him for buying from Brick Lane.

thea, tell me you didn't pay for it................

  • Well when I said make, I of course meant, did he ask for money in return for the whip.

  • thea - that's great news, you're incredibly lucky, a lot of people would have simply stopped returning your calls and wouldn't have returned your bike.

For such an expensive and desirable bike please buy something like a Fahg and lock it like your life depended on it! Sad but true for London. Happy days for you and your newly returned wheels.

  • Course I didn't pay for it.
He says his bro paid £170 for it at Brick lane.

I've got a Fahg, there no way my bike could have been stolen if I'd used it that day to lock it up.....

  • I have got my bike nicked yesterday evening. If anyone's seen it, please PM me.

Guys i'm pretty desperate here, I have put so much work on this bike and I would do London to Paris in 2 weeks time on it. I'm in shock that was stolen from such a high balcony (over 20ft high) with CCTV everywhere.

Please, it's quite a unique bike, if you see it, PM me.
