  • Stolen from a stall at Ripley Jumble today:
Rear Miche Promato Large Flange Track hub laced to a Rigida Flyer silver rim with Vittoria Yellow and black tyre. If the culprit would like to return it to the Charlotteville Jumble at Ripley on June 9th they can have the matching front wheel free of charge 'cause it's no f'ing use without the rear!!
Also stolen from two other stalls - a pair of Carbon Forks and a Titanium 10 spd cassette (RRP £300). Nice days work for the tea leaves.

  • so what locks do you recommend?

  • try 15 seconds , thats about the time that lock takes to get off , i know because i'm a locksmith ,
you guys realy need to stop believing the advertising ,

I also know what can get off most locks in seconds, but to do so in public, where (I hope) most people lock their bikes, would certainly raise everyone's suspicions that there was a theft in progress.

There's a very good guy on here, with maybe the loveliest taste in bikes that I have seen, that locked his bike with at least one Fahg Mini (it could have been two if my memory serves me correctly) and still his bike was stolen. BUT, and there is a big but, his bike was hidden from the public, so the thieves had the ability to remove it in any fashion that they wanted. The method I think you may be describing (please don't make it public in your posts), would be successful, yes, but it would hopefully cause at least one member of the public to alert the police, if not take photos of the miscreant.

The M18 remains one of the very best locks that anyone could ever use to lock their bikes, and its better than any lock I own.

    EDIT:
Its easily possible to get emotionally attached to a bike. I still miss the bike I was proudest of, that was stolen probably back in 1992. I've moved on, and bought much better bikes than that, but that is still one I miss.

I don't understand your comma use and I don't like your posts. You've said nothing positive on this forum since you have joined.

  • @ XH My point still stands - I dont think people should invest a lot of emotional attachment to objects.

  • ^ Maybe we 'shouldn't', but being human, we do.

I'd rather grow to love people, things and places than not give a crap.

  • One could easily argue that emotional attachment to objects is not a human attribute at all, but one manufactured / conditioned by a constant bombardment of advertising, widespread consumer culture of this particular society we live in, and so on. Or that human attributes are a product of a particular time and place, and not eternal or universal. etc.

tomhirvin if you have the wheels I suggest you get a replica frame built up.
Anyway, I've said my piece. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

  • for a friend: stolen yesterday from her hallway on the hackney road

a black and red brick lane bike. i don't have a photo but i believe it would look similar to the first bike on this page but in black and red:
    http://bricklanebikes.co.uk/bikes/ready_to_go

Black frame, red hubs and saddle and other components. It would also be a small frame

sorry for the lack of detail

  • I hate to reference new scientist again but... they just did a good article on the basics of human nature, things that all humans do, no matter what society they live in. Possession and a love of materiel things is one of the things that is embedded in our nature. A little akin to magpies.

  • Do humans love magpies?

  • Can humans love magpies?

  • Will humans love magpies?

  • They can get a bit clingy.

  • ^ Looks like a case for Rod Munch

  • Just speaking with a girl, she had her handle bars stolen over the weekend.
Snidey fuckers must have known what they were doing, were stealing: drops with red to white shade tape and Dura Ace 7400 sti lever/shifters, as below.

  • Handlebars and brakes !!! christ we will be welding all our parts to our bikes soon !

    FFS

  • fuck's sake. suppose they've figured out it's easier than nicking a whole bike and also easier to shift the parts for a good return. dripping some solder into the stem bolt head to fill it up might be worth it on a beater?

  • what about the bearing/superglue trick?

  • the little bastards apparently figured that one out and carry superglue remover...

  • In another new low from the scrotes, a friend of mine had her seat nicked - with the thief SAWING through the seatpost as close as possible to the seat tube. FFS.

  • I should add that the seatpost had a quick release as well. Jeezuz. I'd be inclined to think vandalism combined with stupidity.

  • just had my bike stolen
