Workmates daughter had her 70s Bianchi stolen this morning, in Brighton. Posting here cos I suspect that many of our southron stolen bikes end up in the Big Smoke..
Photo attached, but please note that the bar tape was Celeste this morning (by now, who knows..)
More pics and spec at http://www.retrospectivecycles.com/bianchi-sprint-55cms/
Distinctive marks: nice patina, numbers stamped on headtube (7co75...), ball-busting 3TTT stem, celeste bar tape..
If you see anyone who is not a teenage girl touching this bike, please feel free to give them a stern talking to, and PM me!

Just out of interest, people here are talking about contents insurance to claim on if your bike gets stolen...how many people actually have dedicated bicycle insurance? From evans or cycleguard etc?

Some more good news! My Pinarello was stolen on Monday (pics above).
It was sold on gumtree the same day for 60quid, before I could get to it. It cropped up again this morning, gingerchris spotted it and dropped me a pm.
Having done all the registering of the theft with the city police before, I gave them the gumtree ad...

(guys put some nasty drops on it)...They've gone out and nicked the c*nt. So now I have my bike back, and whats even more gratifying, the guy's been arrested!
who got nicked? The original thief, the guy whole sold it the first time or the who sold it the second time?

Hey all, really sorry for all you guy's losses, but there is a great solution to protecting yours from theft.
It's better than locking it with a chain, as it can't be cut, and it also looks nicer. Heres the link to their website, btw not advertising, merely showing you guys something that could help and thought it very relevant to this thread.

If you want anymore pic's just ask, I have them and they work a treat, i.e. my saddle hasn't been nicked yet! -

I was reading 'cycling fans' website when this advert popped up on the right.
looks dodgy to me so if anyone has lost a ribble road bike with campag parts, and a dynamo front hub/light check it out. I reported it to gum tree.
-
• #8063
^shit, the advert has disappeared already, maybe it's been taken down by gumtree but that means we have lost trace of the bike. sorry didnt think that through.

The fella who bought it for £60 on monday (2 hours after it got swiped) and tried to flip it for £250 on Thursday.
He's as bad as the thief in my eyes.
On the plus side, he has cleaned it for me.
who got nicked? The original thief, the guy whole sold it the first time or the who sold it the second time?

On the plus side, he has cleaned it for me.
Nice one!

Good one Oller! haha its like getting nice and shiny brand new cycle.
maybe the bastard lifted off the lamp post but i think it would of been hard, i dont think there would have been enough space and the bastard would have still to contend with having the wheel locked. i wish he had left the chain so i could have claimed from arbus.
the new covent garden market is The Fruit & Vegetable and Flower Markets are open for trading from 3am to 11am Monday to Friday and 4am to 10am on Saturdays. Please note that not all wholesalers are open on Saturday so check before coming to the Market.

^ It's on Sunday's that you want to go though as they have a car boot sale with tonnes of dodgy bike bits (and some legit ones too to be fair). I saw a pretty nice Scott road bike there, complete for £120. The worst thing was, about 20 minutes later some older respectable looking gent must have purchased it as he was walking it down the road. WAC

Been meaning to source some torx bolts to do just this. Knew someone had to have done it by now. They look quite successful. You haven't found any issues with the tool not engaging?

Oller, that is brill.
Re: protesting at Brick Lane - I know it dangerous and would be fruitless etc. sometimes the anger just bubbles into over spill -
• #8070
those who plan to head to brick lane on sunday note that i saw guys selling right at the end of the street next to the junction with shoreditch high st opp side of t building , seemed to be 3 guys with several racers ......far enough away from the market for the old bill to miss !

Playing devils advocate; surely they would just move to another area or market. At least we know where to go now if we do lose a bike.
Tempting though this is hussy, I think that it is honestly a very bad idea. The people that you will be dealing with are criminals, it is therefore likely that they will resort to violence in order to protect their enterprise. A much more sensible way to deal with this would be to organise the large numbers of people on the forum to engage with the GLC, local MPs and the police to register the fact that this is so brazen and that something needs to be done about it. The scope for something to go wrong in confronting these people is too great and could put good people with good intentions in harms way.
your are so right. the thieves that steal I am certain (judging by their clothing on the debased characters I dealt with at Brick Lane) all of them are richer than me and my girlfriend (she owned the bike) its so frustrating
-
• #8072
thanks for the tip gios, I thought the extended freeway of selling the bikes had been clamped down on by the Police - obviously only temporarily
-
• #8073
No they have a mark on the tool and key so it's super easy to orientate correctly. They also look great and are really discrete, if you really value your saddle, if it's a brooks or something which needs to wear in, these are the best thing to keep them safe!
