Seems like an awful lot of this going on at the moment.
My wife's bike was stolen yesterday.
Exmouth Market EC1, was locked to Sheffield stand between my bike and one other. Abus lock snipped with boltcutters. Stolen between 1310 and 1400.
Trek Pilot 5.0 in 'Hyacinth' (that's a kind of light blue to you & me)
Shimano 105 groupset, including triple chainset and a brand new cassette.
Specialized Arial saddle, I believe
Aksium wheels. Front tyre Aksion; rear an older replacement.
Had an Exposure Maxx-D on it. Probably still has the mount. Cateye computer mount (we have the computer). Exposure rear light, as well as a couple of Knogs.
Had a red Trek tailbag with a Smart light on it, and a bartop Topeak bagShe's really upset about it - she's unlikely to ever buy another CF road bike.
Thanks to the guy at East Central Cycles for the sympathy and the help getting to Brick Lane. It wasn't there.

Which Abus lock? - it's always good to know what types of lock are being snipped in broad daylight in public places.
Sorry to hear about the bike.

Tresor 1360 I think
But that's a damn tough lock. They'd have got through almost anything in that situation.

Exmouth market is dangerous for bikes. I used to work there and there were bike thefts almost daily.
Its the kids who live on the estates on st john street who pinch all the bikes. Little fuckers. they hang around scoping them out all day pretty much. police never do anything about them. dont really understand why they dont. -

Sorry man but that lock is nowhere near secure enough for London, not tough enough at all. :(

Next time make sure to buy a meaty D-lock - pick one that's expensive. Pretty much any cable lock can be snipped with bolt cutters in two seconds flat. Check out the locks that work thread. Very sorry for the loss of the bike though, hope you can claim insurance or something. Will keep an eye out for it as I'm working round there. Make sure to keep an eye out for it here as well: http://bikeshd.co.uk/

that lock is terrible! use 2 decent different types of locks, standard these days. thats if you want to give your bike a chance of still being there. will take an extra couple of minutes to put 2 on but will make the opportunist thief think twice.
don't get me wrong if someone wants to steal your bike then their going to take it no matter how many locks you put on it.

Drat. Blue ribble gears (tiagra) with yellow bar tape & crud guards from the stands in Clapham Junction ASDA less than 30 minutes ago. I was only in there for 15 mins but it was inadequately locked (abus curly). Ho hum. Has an ugly black & white kappa saddle, SPD pedals & battered cateye el530 light.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for that one. I'm not far away.
Re: Locks. Yeah, I know. The cable lock I had was armoured and regularly came out top of tests. But my usual lock is an Abus Granit, which whups the ass of a Fahg.
Actually, I might get myself a new Granit, and give the current one to the lad, who normally uses a bit of a cafe lock.

Which Abus Granit is better than a Fahg?
-
• #7739
The Granit 54 X Plus has to be cut in 2 places on the shackle to remove it the Fahg only requires 1 cut. Whether this makes it better or not?
-
• #7740
The fagh mini requires two cuts. It's bolted on both sides.

Do shops not normally ask someone to leave a credit card or ID when they let people test ride bikes? Especially £3,500 bikes?
Hope the smug prick gets caught next time he tries it.
Yeah of course, they are homeless so they probably will have to steal stuff to stay alive, but i mean i don't they walk around with bolt croppers on a mission to steal some bikes
