ljmilo: loads of places put up notices like that, doesnt' mean a thing ;)
last year I had my car clamped, in my OWN block of flats, the excuse being the permit falling off the screen (mysteriously) onto the dashboard wasn't properly displaying it. £150 + bollox visa charge to release by what were essentially uniformed pikies. When they clamped my car they wrapped the chain around the front brake flexihose then pulled it tight, splitting the end of the hose. Dangerous. their response upon releasing the clamp was 'the sign says we can't be held liable for damage to the car'. taking them through small claims, I won because they had damaged the car and they have lost their contract with the building (not renewed).
So yeah, long story short, signs mean nothing. Try them for it. -

Interesting point about the signs. I wonder...
My friend drove his car into Currys car park, parked up, and got out. He left the car park to read the sign on the entrance (which was outside the designated car parking site) to see if he was allowed to park while shopping in the high street. The sign said Curry's customers only, so, he walked back to his car only to find he had already been fined for parking up and leaving the site without entering the shop.

I think it's one of those non-existent bikes that exists as an escrow type scam.
I remember seeing that same bike advertised in May only for £850. http://sale.donkiz.co.uk/sales/zipp_wheels_on.htm

Posted this in another thread as well, but just had my brooks swift nicked from Bunhill row... I'm aiming to do the usual Brick lane wander this Saturday, but what sort of time do I actually need to be there? I know the market starts early, but are the thieving little shits really there at the start or is it more like mid-morning?
It is this one

in case anyone feels like keeping an eye out... it has a distinctive sag, as discussed in this thread!

Dont forget if you see your stolen goods and feel uncomfortable for the impeding confrontation(which is unlikely to go your way unless you are Mr T]) there are cops there now that are there to help you. the duty officer should be reachable on 07768 928 456 and i'm sure he/she can help. Save this number on your phone before you go there!
For a recent stolen parts sucess story see here

Hi guys, I'm new here so sorry my introduction has to be a negative one like this.
Tonight between 8pm and 11pm (Thurs 28th Oct) my 2007 red Langster (the nasty coloured one) was taken from Guy's hospital in London Bridge, 2 Abus D-locks cut clean through.
Distinguishing features are few, but it has a 48t chainring (as opposed to the standard 42), silver cranks, a very high saddle with the front worn and a piece of white velcro on the handlebars to the left of the stem. Immobitagged and police marked for all the good that is. I'll keep an eye out on gumtree I suppose...

it amazes me how early those fuckers get up in the morning.
-
• #5366
Which Abus D-locks? Do you know?
-
• #5367
Yeah I found the fragments of one of them, they are (were?) both 43/150 Sineros

There's a warehouse and offices that overlook the area where these brick lane bike thieves operate. I was thinking about approciching one of these companies and setting up a webcam in their office, looking out of the window.
It would allow people to check for their stolen bikes from the comfort of their own home, or nearest starbucks. Plus, it could keep a history of images...

@cyclotron - that is an excellent idea, I suppose the trick would be seeing if the images are high enough quality. And also making sure the thieving buggers don't learn where the cameras are so they can simply move out of the way

Or put bricks thorugh the office windows.

A guy I know is making a timelapse sequence of the building going up next to his apartment using a cheap compact digital camera tethered to an old netbook. Can be done fairly cheaply and gets you 10+ megapixels of detail plus online storage, etc.

Has anyone has a Specialized road bike (grey) as well as two condor single speed bikes (black and grey) nicked near Mortlake? I only ask as i saw three lads riding these bikes just before. The bikes didn't fit them and it looked like the two Condor ones had spds or similar for pedals and all the lads were wearing trainers.
To be honest it's probably useless me mentioning this as I have no idea where they are or where they went. Sorry

This now has a Turbo seat and small black risers. Obviously the Blockhead stem is a dead giveaway.
This has a Truvative Hussefelt stem now.
Stolen from nears Guys Hospital last night - these two bikes plus a white Carrera Subway. These came right out of our back garden - we got lazy and took for granted the apparently safe area and 'landlocked' back garden would be enough deterrent to keep them safe - it had done for the last 1 and a half months. Please keep an eye out and get in touch if you see them, just noticed 2 hours ago, I'm still in shock.

The middle one is most of my old bike. Bad luck domwarman, will keep my eyes peeled in SE14.
Dread to think what would happen if anyone got into our work underground car park.
Its a gold mine of posh unlocked bikes and kit. (Apart from mine of course).
