my own silly fault
sclater street off bric lane last night, got my surly long haul trucker nicked.
green, covered in stickers
chris ing headset
crazy black and white zebra bar tape on aero bars
phil wood rear touring hub
blue hope front hub
blac broos b17
thompson seatpost (black in line)
time pedals
avid shorty canty brakes
blah blah blahwill give a reward if recovered.
i rode to egypt on this bike so i really really like it.

I saw the police giving some bloke a load of grief the previous sunday too. They turned the bike upside down, checked the serial number then eventually let him go. Im not exactly pro-funbuster all of the time, but it was good to see something happening on the bike front.
As they were doing it though, some big mouthed passer by got involved and started going on about how the police were harassing people with nice bikes and the 'wrong look' and wouldn't leave them alone, asking them why they didn't 'check his camera serial' and so on. He followed them half the length of the lane trying to make an example of them. Essentially he was just a busybody who had butted into a situation he wasn't anything to do with. It was really annoying.
That's the funny thing about the police. There are lots of people out there with big mouths who reckon they could do a better job and yet most of them wouldn't have the guts to actually deal with some of societies' nastiest characters on a daily basis. This obviously says more about them than it does about the coppers.
Personally I've never really understood (and I'm talking about the good coppers here not the idiots that are in the force) what some people could find so awful about someone who decides they want to help their community by making it safer and keeping tabs on the scum-bags.

what I found infuriating was that he assumed the police were in the wrong before they had even checked the serial. He would have looked a prize twat if it had come up as nicked. In this case it didn't, so the gates were open for him to bang on for ages about how right he was.
What's the betting he is the kind of person that moans about the police 'doing nothing' when something he owns gets stolen and they can't find it.

This was stolen from my office building in Smithfield last night along with a mates brand new red Planex.
Please keep your eyes peeled and if you have any info drop me PM.
58 Cinelli Vigorelli (with some temporary black steel forks on it instead of the originals) It also has a black H+S rim on the front now instead of the white rim in this pic. Other than that its the same as in the pic.
White Concor seat, Thomson stem, Cinelli Pepper bars, carbon seatpost, Phil wood hubs on blk H+S on the front & Phil on a white B43 on the back, Miche Primato chainset, Black NS pedals with Jol straps, half link chain.
Will be heading to brick lane tomorrow I guess...
Is the heavy-duty halflink chain standard on this bike? Because I saw a very similar one at about 8.15 today, coming up Newington Green roundabout from Matthias Road and I think heading in the direction of the Angel exit. Not sure what colour the forks were, but the grips were not black - they were a sort of natural rubber look. Not sure about the front rim.

Nope - the half link chain is not standard. The give away will be if its spotted with the steel matt black forks still on it. These were temporary & you wont see many about with these on (as they look a bit shit).
Any more info greatfully recieved. I had just got that bike exactly how I wanted it (except the forks which are on order!)

A friend of mine had her pink and yellow Nishiki Triathlon stolen tonight.
It was taken from Tanners Hilll, Deptford, somewhere between 4 and 7pm; unfortunately I can't be any more descriptive regarding components etc - I'll update the post with more info when I get it.
There's a reward offered, but hopefully a bit of forum justice will come through and she won't have to pay to recover what is rightfully hers. Here's a decent higher resolution photo of the thing. Distinctive crankset and levers, and it was missing the rear mudguard when it was taken. I can only hope that she wasn't using that lock...

re the surly long haul trucker
jeez what a blow. i don't want to rub your nose in it but regardless of what lock you used i wouldn't have locked it up and left it in that area unless i was literally within eye view of it for the whole time. unlucky mate hope it turns up. we'll be on the look out.
out of interest what lock did you use? how long was it left for? -

Still on Bikeshd everyday and still calling all the local independent bike shops. Also got about 7 different saves on Ebay (Lo Pro, Dave Hinde, Trispoke, Time Trial Bike etc) but not a sniff. Won't give up though.

Hi Guys,
I'm a final year design student from Loughborough University. Im working on my final project and would really appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes out of your time to fill out my quick survey on Bicycle Security
-
• #5337
Talking of bike security I really need to take some pics of my bikes and make a note of the serial numbers! Or will that be tempting fate?
If you need/want more locks if you contact the lock companys direct you can get more locks to work with your exsiting key, usful if you have quite a few.

• #5338
Definitely jot down the serial numbers. It only takes a minute and helps things along if the worst happens. I put em in a google spreadsheet so I can't lose it. Hell you can upload the photos there too.

Hi all
Please can you keep a look out for my Lemond which I 'let' get stolen yesterday - first time I've left it unlocked in 2 years and no surprise it went. I 'decided' the meeting I had to attend was more important than going back for my lock which I had forgotten - it wasn't and I've paid for my stupidity. Near Dalston jobcentre. Hmmm.
It's fairly distictive - large yellow panels on the frame with 'Lemond' in black on them. White 'Lemond' lettering on the black fork legs.
There are very few of these frames about and the parts mix makes this one unique and easily identifiable - I can prove ownership for almost all parts.
Lemond Etape
Bontrager 'Race' Lux saddle, 'Race' oversize stem and bars - these are all bottom end cheap parts.
SKS full size guards
Really cheap alloy bottle cages and seatpost
Scratched Sora 8-speed STIs
32 H Mavic A119 rims on Tiagra hubs - rims have some serious dents and the odd crack too.
Shimano cheapo two piece crankset with outboard cups.
Tyres - GP4000S (front) Krylion (rear)
Various brackets for lights and my Abus lock.
SPD mountain bike pedals - these are the things a non-bikey will have to change. The bars & shifters are wired for a flightdeck computer.
There are also some ball bearings glued into the stem cap and left crank armNot of great value, but I'd still like it back!
Police have of course been notified, not that it's likely to help other than inprove crime stats.
Any sightings, please let me know here or on 07 748 12 3799
Thanks. Tom.

I'm pretty sure that that's the second person in the last month or so to make that mistake. -

Hello,
I had my red Specialized Allez stolen from my work’s underground secure (?!) car park on Monday morning on Chancery Lane. I don’t have any pictures but it’s pretty generic and looks like this -
http://www.cyclesuk.com/1011/104-258609Syntek I work near Smithfields so perhaps a gang did a job on local office blocks with less than attentive security guards!
The frame number is OBSM9LL14238
I know it’s not a single speed but please any sightings call me on 07793763002
Thanks
Lewis

sorry to hear that hoss. does your 'secure' parking at work not have any cctv coverage you could have a butchers at? also try getting a hold of whoever handles the security contracting for your block - at best you could get some info from whoever was on duty, at worst you could ask some pretty salient questions regarding the quality of their service. This happened at an office i worked at a while ago in soho and it turned out the security guard was opening the garage to let the little scrotes in for a 'finders fee'.

indeed. then again, do you know how much a security guard makes?
turns out the security industry works a bit like the catholic church - no one gets prosecuted, they just get 'reassigned'

It was locked, but with a cable lock. I’d forgotten the keys to my D lock, which was fastened to the railings nearby. I thought it would be safe with the barrier entry security but I may as well have left it on the street tethered to a lamppost with some old rope…sigh L
They have CCTV, indeed security actually caught the punks when they came back for a second time. They were arrested and their premises searched but they found nothing. Still waiting on news of whether or not they were prosecuted.
Obviously there were signs up saying “leave at owners risk” but do you think I’d be entitled to some compo if I made some complaints?
it is indeed.
