@crimsonape I made my ridiculous comparison with house break-ins, rape, etc. to show how far we have gone in accepting that each rider needs to carry 10 kg and £200 worth of locks as normal required anti-theft behaviour.
In a city where pretty much every bike theft (public) is captured on CCTV, bike theft is rampant and it's not slowing down. Nobody seems to care though. People who cycle to work -- this is their mode of transportation for their means to make a living -- can't even have safe work bike parks? And we all just meekly accept this and say "carry more locks". It's not right. Yes, some bikes are always going to be stolen, but the way that thieves have increased their thieving power recently (carrying cordless power tools) means that the rate of bike theft is going to increase, not decrease. What's "reasonable" to protect your bike from theft has now become nearly untenable.
Anyway, I was just pointing out that if cars were getting stolen at the same rate, or houses being broken into, there would be much hue and cry about it. Instead we get apathetic cops, Brick Lane market, and dopey Boris announcing awesome blue cycle lanes or some such shit like he's every cyclist's hero. Hey Boris, solve the bike theft issue and maybe people will actually want to use those bike lanes.

Some years back I got a puncture on a Friday and left my bike over the weekend in the work cycle lockup. This was under a railway arch, with a 8 foot fence of steel slats, topped with a chain link fence to the top of the arch. Inside was my bike d-locked with a good lock to the bike rail. Next door was my work building with internal/external cctv and 24 hour permanent security. Guess what happened?
Hole in the chain link fence, 8 feet up, mild steel bike rail sawn through, bike gone. Security saw nothing. CCTV just missed where the hole was. Bah!

Was walking to the Westfield Centre today and walked past the bike racks outside the central line station and noticed some bloke by a bike as I walked past, I thought something was odd and saw a flash of blue in his hand so I went back and had a word with him he was about 5'4" said he was locking his bike up which was far too large for him. I just told him to fuck off as you are not doing that with a BIC (grey krypto lock)
I stood my ground and chased him off so if anyone here does park their bikes there be careful as no other person noticed or stopped to see what was going on.
Not the best photo but be a look out for this little shit and give him a kick up the arse like I did to chase him off.
I saw this guy walking down Uxbridge road towards Westfield yesterday. Sure it was him because he was wearing the exact same clothes. Dodgy looking fuck from the front.

I'm not a violent person by nature but there's nothing quite like a bit of on-the-spot retribution:

If you've had a bike stolen recently I hope this cheers you up a little.
Apologies if you've all seen this a million times already. -

Anyone lost a Gorgeous Baby Blue (TM) fixed gear bike with drops and black tape? didn't see much detail but it also had a front brake, silver crankset, normal-looking wheels (i.e. not deep v or spoks), and no foot retention.
Unless the hipster scene is beginning to change its style towards "drug addict chic" i suspect what i saw was nicked. She was riding it slowly and sheepishly along the pavement of Old Bethnal Green Road about 4pm yesterday. Didn't have the equipment to take a photo but if someone on here thinks it's theirs then i think i know where the thief/buyer (not sure which) lives.

Mate has just had his Mongoose Maurice nicked from outside fitness first in Clapham, pretty much standard, new Vredestein tires is about all. It's the biggest size they do as he's 6"9 or more so if you spot kids on one that's too big, let us know.
He's had nothing but bad luck with it... I posted a bit back about his repeated puncturing, he was laughing when I spoke to him, bumped into a guy who owns Streatham cycles who was a decent sounding chap.

custom condor road bike in white with the name 'michael koppelman' on the frame, obviously along with it being a beautiful bike it holds great sentimental value.

Yeah, he seems to have sold a few bikes but doesn't really know how to describe them. Who would sell a Condor with Campagnolo parts without giving some measurements?

Yep, and the *Kilamsin *wheels.
People who do own these sort of bikes can usually talk the talk.

Pictures added just in case the auction disappears.
Just had my bike stolen last night.
Tied up to the railings on the top floor of my block of flats.
Pictures of the frame here:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread36034.html
Frame looks the same as in the photos. Built up with sugino messenger crankset, black leader forks, white charge dish wheels, bianchi green taped bulls. Oh and a brand new nitto seat post.
If anyone sees it please throw something blunt and heavy at the rider.
