Stolen bikes

  • I'll keep an eye out in West London.

Its worth contacting the local bike shops just in case. putney cycles, mend-a-bike, swim-Bike-Run, Days cycles, evans..

  • When was yours taken?

Was a L black langster in brick lane yesterd 4 sale. Had bar tape held on with sellotape on one side. Both wheels present. Clearly nicked as being sold by a c*nt who needs kicking to death starting with his balls.

Also the Asian American had a large yellow ss frame with forks VERY HEAVY like mtb/hybrid.

I will have a cheapish frame coming back from having the seat pin removed which might be for sale, made by Belgium Diamant, quite nice.

Bastardos! Some ruffian has nicked my 58 black 2010 Langster from outside Charing Cross hospital. They were kind enough to leave my front wheel (I'd locked it up all wrong...), but if anyone sees a Langster missing it's front wheel let me know!

Not too highly modded, changed the front to a silver 48t from the original 42t sugino, black BMX pedals, missing decal on left hand side top tube...

As the rozzers are unlikely to find it, any suggestions for a new build? Fancy putting a hack together, starting from scratch (I have a 700 front wheel to get me going!)

  • provenrad, good idea, I'll get down there and scope them out

strangler, was taken on Tuesday, sounds interesting, I had sawn off upturned drops, so kinda bull horn type of arrangement, sound about right? Will have to get down there too...

  • Was for sale in the square on the right as you walk down Scatler St.

  • Awesome, will get down there, thanks

  • They were kind enough to leave my front wheel (I'd locked it up all wrong...)

Its not just you Spitinyari (Spit In Your Eye = funny), that I've seen only locking the front wheel, and not the rest of the bike.
Its far more common than I'd realised. Hope you get a result with your search down Brick Lane.

  • Idiotically put the lock through the front wheel and the forks so they just unbolted the wheel... Not very bright of me! The CCTV shows one of the two guys who nicked it producing a spanner from his back pocket and just undoing the bolts. Lesson learnt...

  • Yo. This guys been selling a few dodgy bikes on ebay of late - classic hallmarks of something a bit fishy....anyone lost a langster?

    Item no.** 230431949909** + 230431944458....

  • ....glad you found them - thanks!

  • Not my langster unfortunately, thanks for posting the links!

  • had a genesis flyer stolen back in july. axa declined to cough up on the insurance so i've been on the look out for it for ages. finally saw a kid on it last night riding in the opposite direction to me. cut a long story short the bike is back in my possession. it can happen and it doesn't need to involve violence. in fact i think violence involved in reclaims just perpetuates the whole thing. sure my case is the exception rather than the rule but it can happen.

  • hadn't someone lost a lemond fillmore with yellow front tyre? i kno where a bike that fits that description is

  • pretty sure this is a stolen bike.

    good spelling mate.

  • It also still has the double ring on it and looks like it's running a singlator, nice work on the brake cables.. defo dodgy - but looks like someone's hack bike

  • Do the police in London actually do anything at all about bike theft? From all I read they just cannot be bothered. I'd like to know that's not true.

  • just spoke to a friend who had his bike nicked from KCL strand carpark. he isn't a cyclist and was a cheap bike so he isn't bothered, but was lockedd with a cable lock. said that from the cctv he watched, the theif just came and snipped the lock and off with it. be careful if you go here.

    You cant generalise the police.
With my experience, I think they do try, just not very hard.
They have other priorities which is fair, but, i still have no clue what they're doing fining people for such insignificant misdemeanors.

  • had my tricross singlespeed stolen in a break-in this weekend.. Keep your eyes peeled please...

just got my bike stolen from Tesco's in Whitechapel road.
    totally gutted.

honestly, and im still in shock at how quick it happened.

so i walk in to Tescos's i don't have a lock with me, so I assess the situation and see the security guard right by the door. i mean literally next to it. ok, good.

Im with a work colleague and i ask him to keep an eye out for my bike which i put right in to tesco's, right next to the counter, with the security guard literally 1 foot away. I ask the security guard to look out for it and in fact, he rests his hand on my bike seat, so i feel confident.

so off i go to get my beef burgers i planed to buy, about 3 car length away, and by the time i get there, i hear some shouting, i look round, and my bike is gone.

What the holy fucking shit ???

so i run like a fucking mentalist, and he's gone, no where to be seen.

after speaking with the security guard and my friend, what happened was that the thief's friend asked for directions to the security guard which distracted him for 5 secs, in which time the thief got hold of my bike and was on his way.
My friend saw this immediately, and went for him and he was literally so fast that he could not catch him, cos the thief started riding it immediately.

security guard went running after him what seems miles down the road, and by the time i caught up with him he's lost sight of him, as the thief had caused loads of havoc by running reds lights at breakneck speed it seems and cars having to do emergency stops all over.
Well, this is what i was told and i could see everyone talking about how "crazy" that guy was.

Anyway, im here typing this and i feel ok about it, but it is hard to not feel angry at my friend, and the security guard and last but not least the thief.

This deserves to be in the epic fail thread, since the security guard was a foot away and my friend was a less than 2 meters away and they still couldn't do anything. For fuck sake.

Anyway i have some plans to get it back, as it is registered and all that, and besides the front wheel is put on with a pin-lock.
Hope the fuckers drill a hole in their eye, and die trying to remove it. cunts.

as you can see the pictures show different variations of parts, but basically the top picture is how it looks like now, but with white handlebar tape.

please please please, if you see it, grab it for me if you can and tell them it's yours. If anyone does help me get the bike bike, i'll see you straight with lifetime beers at drinks or a hefty wad of cash... honestly, whatever , just name it, i just want my bike back.

    edit]

actually i'll go one step further and say now that to who ever manages to trace it will get £100.

Still haven't recovered it, so just wondering if anyone has spotted it.

was stolen October 2009 but i'm still searching around.

  • Hey has anyone lost a Condor Pista in a minty colour. I apologise if this is legitimate but seems for to cheap. http://www.gumtree.com/london/74/53712374.html

  • STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN - STOLEN

Sometime forum member S/J has had his Alan bike stolen in London Fields yesterday, around midnight. It's been de-stickered, so I can't imagine any tea-leaf knowing what it is.

Black Nitto drops and Champ grips
    Black Nitto stem
    Campag aero seatpost
While Halo hubs and Velocity rims
    Campag Super Record Pista cranks
    Shimano Spuds
    White Vittoria tyres

He's absolutely gutted, so despite him not heeding my repeated insistence that he invests in a better lock, doesn't leave it locked up in the street for any significant amount of time, and certainly not in Hackney, and to consider insurance, I'm going to help him out.

  • He must be gutted, that is a lovely bike! What lock did he use?

  • He uses a thick Abus steel-o-flex. I know, I know, not enough; it has been mentioned.
