I think I may have seen those thieving kids with a/the stolen bike(s) yesterday at the corner of Kingsway and Theobolds Road. Two kids all dressed in black with big hoodies riding along in a hurry dragging another bike with bits falling off it (a light and a rear mud guard) which they didnt stop for. That was what drew my attention. Didnt know what to do, there were no other cyclists about and I didnt think the police would have cared about my sighting. Was quite upset about it when i got home.

One of them turned left right across my path and nearly took us both down last night. Wasn't much I could do as I was carrying lots of stuff.

With a crime evidently in progress, you should call 999. In that case, it's fairly easy for the police to take effective action, although they frequently arrive too late. Their response obviously also depends on what else is going on at the same time. -

my friend who works at the British Library told me that four bikes were stolen from the front bike racks today.
this is a bit of a bad spot for stolen bikes, and the same three kids are seen time and again on cctv. but they are really sneaky. anyway, usually only wheels and seatpost/saddles go missing, but today they succeeded in stealing a bike which had 3 locks.
this is because they now have a grinder apparently.just thought i'd post this as i know a few people on here lock up at the library... so be careful
feels like there is not much that can be done when hand tools are involved
Cheers for the heads-up, E. That's a total fucker.

exactly where i leave my bike most days, thanks for heads up - did it all happen at night?
thinking about it how quick would a grider go through orange mini kryp and i guess it is a battery powered (grinder) - least the battery wont hold out that long, could you equate how many locks you'd need to beat the battery.

Go and tell the guys in Putney Cycles if you haven't already. Lukeyb got his bike stolen and a few days later the guys who took it tried to sell it to the guys in the shop. Unlikely that they will do it again but it's worth a shot.

Thanks for suggestions guys. Bike was locked overnight to a Sheffield stand in a gated courtyard of a private residential block on Fawe Park Road. Steel chain and steel padlock. The thief chopped out a link in the chain. Will have a word with Putney Cycles.

My bike was stolen from outside of the office today. It was locked with a kryptonite evo mini lock to a kryptonite anchor. the thief cut the lock through probably with an angle glinder in a very short period in a gated(unlocked) development.
It's a pastel green Raleigh special products cyclocross bike, and had ksyrium sl wheels, schwalbe cross pro tyres, deda zero100 stem, deda newton bars, fizik aliante saddle, campag centaur ergos, veloce mechs, chorus chainset, paul neo retro cantis, and sks mudguards.

That sucks y-s, I was admiring that bike at the De Launce cross event at HH. Will keep an eye out for it.
yeh, i never lock at the shelter.. mainly because i can't get my fahgettaboutit around the weird square shaped racks.
there is still the most beaterish beater (not)locked from when someone arrived on a bike, left it and took someone else's a few months back.. the security guards are leaving it there and watching it in case the thief ever comes back...
