My bike has been stolen!
This sucks.
Taken from outside the beehive pub N1 Friday 19th September.
Looks like this but completely stickered up apart from the ‘Orlowski’ on the down tube.
Roughly 56cm
Chris King Headset
Deep V’s laced to Black Grand Compe Hubs.
San Marco Regal saddle
Soma Eva Wear Tyres.
Miche Primato Crank Set
MKS Sylvan Pedals
Thanks to all of those who tried to find it tonight.
Fingers crossed it will pop up in Brick Lane although i feel the most likely is Gumtree given the circumstances.
(I really do hate the Bee Hive now)
Still no joy :(

Found a good alternative to ball bearings for securing hubs. I've superglued small nuts into the allen key slots of my track nuts. To remove them i screw a bolt in, pushing out the nuts:
interesting idea bigfoot.
+1, neat idea

Not meaning to be thick but it looks really snug in there... Having difficulty seeing how you would get it out again. Surely if you screw in the corresponding bolt both will travel up it as you turn as the sides of the smaller nut seem to be touching the insides of the bigger one. Is that the trick?
Doesn't make much difference to me personally as I've got a different setup, but interested to know how it works.

works like a crank extractor. thats very neat!
as the screw works through the end pushes against the inside and drives the bolt back out, that OR you can just pull it out.
The very minimum it deters the fuckers as it's an ass to take off -

love the username BTW. i can't wait to see the avatar

Cheers for 'splaining, Slag! Works as I suspected it might, which is mighty clever.
My friends call me Japes, but that username was taken so I went with the filthy derivative that gets wheeled out when I do something reprehensible.
Doubt the avatar will live up to expectations. But nice to be here. I've learnt lots whilst lurking here over the past year or so.

Quite impressed with the police response! When my bike got pilfered in Brighton they just shrugged but in Hackney apparently there is a big drive in the borough at the moment and in one day I've received three lengthy phonecalls from Stoke Newington Police Station and arranged to meet someone from the crime scene examination office to dust my hallway for prints! I've even been offered counselling...

Yeah Hackney Police are very helpful, my mate who got his bike stolen that I mentioned above thought he maybe found it for sale in Hackney on guntree. It was stolen in Oxford so he phoned the police there, they basically said forget about it just get insurance next time and don't think about trying to meet up with them if you value your legs. He arranged to meet them anyway, I suggested he phoned the Hackney police who arranged to have plain clothed police patrolling the area and gave him a number and code to call and they would be there imediately. Unfortunately the guy never turned up with the bike and the phone number has never worked since, he thinks they got spooked by gumtree as he reported it to them on the advice of the Oxford Police.

just got my bike stolen from Tesco's in Whitechapel road.
totally gutted.honestly, and im still in shock at how quick it happened.
so i walk in to Tescos's i don't have a lock with me, so I assess the situation and see the security guard right by the door. i mean literally next to it. ok, good.
Im with a work colleague and i ask him to keep an eye out for my bike which i put right in to tesco's, right next to the counter, with the security guard literally 1 foot away. I ask the security guard to look out for it and in fact, he rests his hand on my bike seat, so i feel confident.
so off i go to get my beef burgers i planed to buy, about 3 car length away, and by the time i get there, i hear some shouting, i look round, and my bike is gone.
What the holy fucking shit ???
so i run like a fucking mentalist, and he's gone, no where to be seen.
after speaking with the security guard and my friend, what happened was that the thief's friend asked for directions to the security guard which distracted him for 5 secs, in which time the thief got hold of my bike and was on his way.
My friend saw this immediately, and went for him and he was literally so fast that he could not catch him, cos the thief started riding it immediately.security guard went running after him what seems miles down the road, and by the time i caught up with him he's lost sight of him, as the thief had caused loads of havoc by running reds lights at breakneck speed it seems and cars having to do emergency stops all over.
Well, this is what i was told and i could see everyone talking about how "crazy" that guy was.Anyway, im here typing this and i feel ok about it, but it is hard to not feel angry at my friend, and the security guard and last but not least the thief.
This deserves to be in the epic fail thread, since the security guard was a foot away and my friend was a less than 2 meters away and they still couldn't do anything. For fuck sake.
Anyway i have some plans to get it back, as it is registered and all that, and besides the front wheel is put on with a pin-lock.
Hope the fuckers drill a hole in their eye, and die trying to remove it. cunts.
as you can see the pictures show different variations of parts, but basically the top picture is how it looks like now, but with white handlebar tape.
please please please, if you see it, grab it for me if you can and tell them it's yours. If anyone does help me get the bike bike, i'll see you straight with lifetime beers at drinks or a hefty wad of cash... honestly, whatever , just name it, i just want my bike back.
edit]
actually i'll go one step further and say now that to who ever manages to trace it will get £100.

If it comes to Clapton I will let you know (use of extreme violence towards the twat). Loads of nicked bikes end up on my street :-$
And no, I don´t think the Police in Hackney cares much about stolen bikes, everyone here knows there´s shit loads of stolen bikes being trade on broad day light... shame. -
• #2764
Dylan that fucking sucks, I love that bike, you better get it back.
Unfortunately not much I can do personally in terms of keeping an eye out as I live S. West and don't work in the inner city, but I will let people know who are not on the forum to keep alert.
Seriously dude do all you can... remember it isn't necessarily gone forever so don't give up any time soon.

At the end of it all, it is only a bike.

cheers, im actually ok, but i get pangs of anger, and then depression, its weird, i forget/remember/forget...
it's a little like grieving, how sad is that ?
"wtf ?" is what i tell myself , it's only a bike, but at the end of the day,
we do get attached to things when we use them every day.
not only that when we've searched and toiled over parts to make it.
Fucking cunts.. at the moment i hate thieves so much honestly, i could kill one with pleasure.
it's unavoidable i suppose.
anyone fancy tagging along on Sunday @ BL ? -
• #2770

BTW, that´s how I got my 1st fixed nicked, also down Bricklane. But I was more than distracted, one fucker pushed and another cunt took the langstar. Had the nerve to come back to the spot 10min after.... these kids nicking bikes don´t give a flying fuck to what might happen, they´re all underage/crooks for life.
thank you!
