  • Stolen: Pompino & fuji

    Hi Guys & Girls,

my girlfriend & flatmates bikes were stolen out of our garden wednesday night... girlfriend is really gutted (and I am too since I built it for her!), and of course its totally my fault since a momentary lapse in paranoia allowed me to leave it in the garden in the first place.

The bikes are: 1. a white On One Pompino in 49cm size, with the decals taped up, silver riser bars with teal grips and a fat grey / blue bmx stem, and a white charge saddle. Wheels are alexrims cheapies.

    1. fairly standard blue threaded model Fuji Track, size 52cm, with silver risers and white ourys.

If you see either of these bikes on brick lane or when doing your usual rounds on ebay or gumtree please please give me a message or email on c.ferstad[at]gmail.com

They were stolen out of the back of our house on wilton way (in dalston), next to the prince george pub, many of you will know this one ;)

we all know the moral of the story for this and other too frequent tales... i'm kicking myself REAL hard on this one. UGH.

Thanks a lot for reading, and thanks for your help...!

  • Yey Congratulations!
    You're a very lucky geeza.

  • ohhhh no i mean i've found the stolen bikes thread :)

  • I retract my previous statement.

  • Well done sir.

  • Reminds me of something similar that happened to a neighbour of mine and her child.

I was at their house, in Third Avenue, W10, quite a few years ago, and her son came running in from the garden, distressed and crying. His bike had gone. It was an enclosed garden, and obviously, it had been stolen.

His mum tried to calm him down, as nothing could be done, about his relatively new bike. So after some food, a cold drink, and some hugs, he went out into the garden again, to "play", in the most melancholy and forlorn of fashions.

As we sat chatting in the kitchen, he zoomed back in, almost too excited to speak! He'd just seen his bike, and it was next door! So his mum took him by the hand, and went next door. The very large Jamaican lady that answered was extremely angry to have been accused (politely) of having a stolen bike in her possession. She called her son, and asked him how did he get a bike, that until that day, he had never owned. The bike was handed over to the immense joy of my friend's child. Within a minute though we could hear an absolutely scream coming from the neighbour's house.....accompanied by the mother's shouting "I didn't raise you to hembarrass me hinna Hingland"!

My friend and her son, happened to be Jamaicans also, and knew the "score" - if you're a child, and you steal and get caught, you can expect a beating to remember. It made me remember my own beatings as a child. Oh, those were the days. ;)

That anecdote aside, I hope you get your bikes back, and no longer assume that your garden is at all a safe place for unsecured bikes.

  • thanks ga2g :) I'll check with my neighbour tomorrow...

  • I walked to work today. I could have caught a bus but I wanted to burn off some fury.
It is with deep regret that I inform you of the theft between the hours of 0700 and 0800 this morning of not one but **both **of LFGSSs famous CYOA's bikes. From his very house no less. Well, they were locked together in the hallway which is a communal area with those big steel U lock things for the residents to lock up to. I only used one D lock this morning as I had been out this morning on one of them and was in a hurry and only going to be an hour before I was off to work.

Bike the first: *White Mercian frame, blue decals, nitto drops with leather bar tape, brooks b17 narrow, dura ace wheelset front and back, toe cages/leather straps.*

Bike the second: *Beater, plug frame, purple rimmed deep vs, flats, brown bartape, keo clipless pedals.*

I have frame numbers, will report, check brick lane, check LBS, check LBT blah blah etc but I still would very much appreciate any eyes and ears open...

  • Which area was this from, CYOA? It sounds like a typical Hackney Hallway™?

    Commiserations!

  • Gosh, that is rather unfortunate. Best of luck with retrieving them.

  • Hiya, yes I perhaps should have added a location! Hackney indeed. Just by Hackney Downs Station..

  • If only all thefts happened like this...

  • Ha, just heard that my bikes getting pinched was the straw that broke the accountants back who is apparently finally relenting after over two years of us requesting the cycle to work scheme be employed here...
    every cloud..

  • CYOA, could you post some photos of your bikes please?

  • I'm at work at the mo and don't have any on this PC but I'll sort something out when I get home.
    Ed

  • Cheers, oh and sorry for your loss hope you get them back ASAP...!

  • Cheers! (Though I'm not holding my breath!)
