It's locked and only we have the key. It may have been the neighbours, but they would also have had to climb up/down from another floor to get at them.

• #2403
Someone might have come in from the side/wall? Very odd......
Good luck though

• #2404
were they the two easiest to get at? can't think why a polo bike would've been taken unless someone really wanted to play polo (no offence like!) but it can't look too pricey to a local chav/crackhead. hope you get them back!

get your detective hat on, if theres any paint scrapes etc on the balcony/walls you could at least work out which direction it went. Has to be one of your neighbours, 5 story climb for a couple of (no offence) fairly basic bikes seems unbelievable to me. Knock on their door pretending you locked yourself out but left your balcony open: excuse to go thru house and check em out...

get one of those cheapy security cams today and stick it on the front door of the building, then if you see it goin out while you're on the computer you can polo mallet em upside the head.

• #2407
Sorry to hear this. That's not a bad idea actually, unless they removed them from the building at the time (assuming it was a neighbour) you could at least find out who it was.
I'm sure that the last bike I had stolen was stolen by an immediate neighbour - it's not a nice feeling - even though where I used to live was dodgy as it's the idea that to some degree they have been watching/waiting to get into your space and pinch them.

@ Oliver - theives are definitely walking around with allen keys. i had a seatpost/saddle stolen this way on a busy Saturday shopping upper st about 6mths ago. now all about the superglue + ball-bearing

Yeah its a sucky thing to think you cant trust your neighbours. My boss is fairly certain she got robbed by her neighbours the other week. It's pretty fucked up, they know when you're in and not and what your routine is.
Good luck with the recovery, is it worth waiting til they go out and peering thru the balcony window? - assuming that you can climb across without falling to your death.... -

My neighbour is a drug dealer and regularly has kids on bikes at his door scoring.
I've updated the pic of the polo bike.

• #2411
WAS IT THIS GUY?
sorry dude... this sounds like a mad one... I guess think about who has access.. and otherwise how they got in?

get a sketchy mate to go score from him on the off chance they're sat in his lounge? Then you get the bill round - you get bikes back and he gets shut down.
the kids must have some mad trials skillz to be able to ride up 5 stories....

^yeah, it's been going on a while. i had stem, bars and brake stolen about three years ago. if you have nice parts on your bike then there is a fair chance they won't stay on it.

This sucks Ian.
The lengths some peeps will go to eh...
Good luck with their recovery.
Will keep em peeled. -
• #2415
fucking hell ian that is shit news. both those bikes are pretty distinctive so eyes will be peeled dude.

Gutted for you Iain, the crime in East London sucks
-
• #2417
rat on a rat on the dealer maybe he's involved, maybe not but having scummy people around you invites this shit
-
• #2418
where are you located?
i heard the ominous sounds of an angle grinder in the distance as i was falling asleep last night at about 1230... i'm in hoxton/shoreditch area.
-
• #2419
really lame news Ian, you've got a proper mystery on your hands by the sounds of it. when a 5th floor balcony is no longer safe where can you put your bikes?
hope they turn up soon dude.

ha ha, i would have woken with an angle grinder out on the balcony. They nicked the two bikes that were locked together, left another three lying (my wives bikes, sound suspicious? Maybe she doesn't want me playing polo any more??).
At least I have insurance. I have to just cry about losing my beautiful Raleigh TI.

Thanks, guys. It's important to hear that this is now fairly general behaviour.
-
• #2422
Man that sucks, hope you get them back. I also hope the toerags fall off the next 5th floor balcony they try to steal from! One word of warning though. Now somebody knows what bikes you have there and how to get onto your balcony, they'll also expect you to have 2 new replacement bikes soon. This happened to me when my mountain bike got stolen, a week after getting it back the scumbags returned and it was stolen again :(

Big fucking dogs is clearly the only answer. Oh wait the rude boys have already cornered that market...
-
• #2424
Did you hear mumbled french voices - maybe it was one of those pesky continental polo teams trying to sabotage Malice for the next tourney
sucks big time fella :^[

Brings bike in from first floor balcony.
were they stolen by your neighbours? who else would climb up 5 floors of balconies?
