  • Will do.

  • there was a time when u could wonder the streets of n1 - n16 and east to dalston down to viccy park and bow without ever hearing a group of aussies hustling off to meet other aussies in the west to tell them of the new lands out east, that time started to dissappear 3 or 4 years ago though and now, we are everywhere.....

being an aussie used to be a novelty amongst the english, the "token" aussie always got you a few laughs and a pint or 2, but now the new breed has come to town, the type of aussie thats more americanised than english, and they are giving us older generation aussies a bad name... so much for paving the way for the newer generation....

happens in every culture and religion
    ;)

on the topic of bike theft - 8 years 7 bikes, one i desreved to have stolen 2 poor locks, the rest just amazing what these fuckers will do to get at ya bike... and one returned by police - amazing i know, good luck to all those that have had a bike stolen of late

  • Agreed!

  • Admittedly, there is this old problem with Australians living in Stoke Newington.
    action town, she-bu, or ealing

  • FYI there's fuck all Aussies in Ealing. Ealing is mostly Polish or Indian.

  • i remember my friends older cousins and friends going to the UK when i was 13 or whatever, and they were the times i spose when coming over must have been really fucking cool man, being over in the Uk in the 80'sand early 90's... u had to be kinda really adventurous to do that and now...

now, it's more about building a life here, and everyone gives it a go just about, well more people - its weird as i would live here but am tooo much a beach person and well 8yrs is a long time to be away from that lifestyle....

as the new gen comes (i am kinda the start of that in early 2000's I spose) there's more money into pockets and it's about careers and estasblishing a life away from home, am sure someones done a study of the movements of ozzies OS, attitudes etc....

but yeah, now there's something like 1500 ozzies and kiwi's heading home per week due to the credit munch......

NOTE: in prevuous post about paving the way - was just joking as i only been here since 2001, not even close to pathing a way, anyways - aussies really didn't have to pave a way here or in most places they go, just seems to be easy for em/us... or it used to be - that cultural capital is slowly being lost, cultural capital crunch if ya like, wah wah waaahhh

  • Get your coat....

  • Hey guys!
First post for me in this absolutely brilliant forum. But as you could imagine in this threat, it's because of a sad case.
On Thursday me and one of my colleagues found the place where we put our bike at work (locked terrace in the basement at the backyard secured by two gates) empty. We could't believe someone stole them from there. We suggest this was kind of an inside job. Cause you really need to know the codes for those gates to get access. Anyway. Bikes are gone. 6 weeks of customising and collecting parts, not talking about the money spent, lost!
Now we need your help guys. If anyone sees anything suspicious, please let us know. The bikes are unique and there might be a small chance of getting them back.
We will check out Bricklane tomorrow, we contacted several bike shops and reported it to the police.
So if anyone sees those bikes:

    Please let us know.
Thank you so much in advance.

  • Oh, just to add something, which could be useful for you as well.
The bikes were stolen at Clerkenwell. Around Goswell Road and Clerkenwell Road.
    Again thanks for your help

  • Thought this might be worth posting here. From the excellent Tower Hamlets Wheelers.

Wheelers Bicycle Maintenance Workshop time this Saturday, 11am-3pm at
Limehouse Town Hall, 646 Commercial Road.

    http://www.wheelers.org.uk/workshop/

We've also got police officers from the Limehouse Safer Neighbourhood Team coming along to register your bike, security mark it and give out general security advice. This proved popular last time they came along (Nov 07). If we're lucky they might let us take one of their police bikes to bits ;-)

Come along for bike maintenance tips, get work done on your bike that you've been meaning to do for ages, get help fitting a new accessory, drink tea, eat cake, chat.

As usual first-come first-served and don't arrive too late if you've got lots to get done. All tools supplied, some spares available - brake blocks, brake/gear cables but bring your own to be sure.

Customary post-workshop wind down at Vesuvio cafe on Three Colt Street:

  • Hum.
Bike stolen last night from Bricklayer's Arms - left it over night. White Raleigh frame with 'Reynolds' across it in black lettering, mavic rims, campag hubs, drop handlebars, peeling off red tape, ergo levers, look pedals, campag cranks, sobsobsob....

  • I have seen small tracker at http://www.peartrack.com

Bigfoot, delete that and post it in the private topic!

the bike theft may realise that they've been rumbled and try to ditch the bike if they saw this topic.

  • I have seen a small GPS tracker at http://www.peartrack.com

  • I had a beautiful ** ROYAL BLUE TRACK BIKE ** STOLEN from outside Cargo in Shoreditch yesterday evening - nervex lugs, silver cinelli drop bars, silver non-machined aero rims and a red stem. Has bosses and a 'reconditioned 531' sticker on it. Only built up 3 days ago, so don't even have a pic :( :( :( so if anyone spots it, particularly on Brick Lane, please wrestle the thief to the ground and i'll sort you out a large amount of gratitude and a cold hard cash reward.

shit man that's really bad! how was it locked up/what lock did you use and how long did you left it for?

  • thanks for your sympathy - was left all evening, outside a busy pub and locked with an armoured cable lock and a normal cable lock, which i guess was a bit like gift wrapping it.

  • Another stolen bike!

from outside the off licence on broadway market, hackney at about 12am today. So about an hour ago. It has been reported to the police but I did not have it marked or anything like that.

Gt Aggressor 2 mountain bike in yellow. 21st birthday present and irreplaceable in my eyes. May not have been the coolest bike on the road but it was mine and we had about 6 years of good times together.

Noticeable for a "girls kick ass" sticker on one side and a "narcosis" sticker on the other. Also a revelation records sticker at the front of the bike.

If seen please call zero seven seven zero eight seven six four five nine nine, or email f_s_t_Y at yahoo dot com.

I wil be at brick lane at 8am sunday morning on the scope for it.

    It looks like this

  • Can anyone PM me the details of the market inspectors at BL? Am searching - but failing.
We've had a spate of thefts at work this week, including one last night so want to pass the details on to my colleague.

  • Thanks Dave, was searching for Market Inspectors not Officers..bah

  • New to the forum - but will keep and eye out for anything stolen in north Herts area.

Sorry to hear this, Jo. Hope it gets found--does sound distinctive. It's a shame you don't have pictures. If you want to go to Brick Lane, have a look at the 'Brick Lane Market Officers' thread and contact them. Would be interesting to hear how they're dealing with the problem these days. Good luck.

  • Thanks Oliver - will check the thread, and I guess spend Sunday morning scouring the Lane on the way home from Brighton.

  • But are there not more bike journeys in Hackney than any other borough?

More bike journeys = more bikes locked up on streets = more thefts possible = best place to go if you are a bike thief

Probably has something to do with the fact Hackney only has ONE underground station in the whole borough, Manor House which "real" Hackney folk don't even count as Hackney.
