• She called today at brixton.

It was stolen.

I'm sorry to hear that. I stood around for a while guarding the bike and hoping whoever had left it would realise what they'd done and come back, but in the end i had to go. It also crossed my mind that it might already been stolen and one of the McDonalds regulars was watching it through the window.

Anyhow, that sucks. It was a lovely frame. I hope she gets it back.

• Jings!

• saw some dodgy kids riding in groups of 3 around hyde park last night, near all the popular bike locking spots. pretty sure they would of got a few bikes.

• Dodge/daftness alert: Yesterday afternoon I spotted a lovely turquoise Bob Jackson, small frame, parked outside the Brixton McDonalds with the key left in its lock - house keys also attached.

I hope whoever left it this way had a lucky escape, but the likelihood is it's now being ridden by a guy seven times too big for it with streamers billowing out the bar ends.

Could have been a hero and taken the keys out and left a note mate..

• Hi there,

Here's hoping someone can help; two friends had their bikes stolen late afternoon Saturday from kinglsland road in Shoreditch.

Any help, or heads up regarding the bikes or parts would be greatly appreciated, info below:

Cannondale (R400 I think)
Blue frame
white bar tape
old seat
105 groupset
one broken rear spoke

British Eagle 531 Competion frame, sporting no decals bar one on the headtube and one by the bottom bracket which reads, I think, John Howe, Cambridge. Also has rather fetching electrical tape on the top tube. The wheels are Bottechia aero-spoke items and it has a Shimano Tiagra chainset, Sora STI levers and a 105 rear mech.

Cheers,

• Mates bike was stolen from inside her building on the Kingsland road yesterday. Bolt cutters through the cable lock.

Am I the only one who see a very obvious pattern popping up in this topic?

• Bikes are being stolen from everywhere, but as Hackney has the highest level of cycling in London, it obviously pops up all the time.

• Bikes are being stolen from everywhere, but as Hackney has the highest level thieving scum in London, it obviously pops up all the time.

Fixed.

• The fixed version is truer.

• Bikes are being stolen from everywhere, but as Hackney has the highest level of cycling in London, it obviously pops up all the time.

But are there not more bike journeys in Hackney than any other borough?

More bike journeys = more bikes locked up on streets = more thefts possible = best place to go if you are a bike thief

• Admittedly, there is this old problem with Australians living in Stoke Newington.

• Dalston mate... Im way too "street" to live in Stokey.

• But are there not more bike journeys in Hackney than any other borough?

Estimated cycling modal share of all trips made by Hackney residents = 8% according to latest TfL report (London Travel Demand Survey). Richmond is second at 4%.

More bike journeys = more bikes locked up on streets = more thefts possible = best place to go if you are a bike thief

It depends on what you're looking for. Many bikes from Hackney spend daytimes in Central London. There are certainly vulnerable sheds, but they tend to be targeted at night. Think of a way in which a bike owner can spend time away from their bike and you've thought of an opportunity for theft.

• Dalston mate... Im way too "street" to live in Stokey.

Fell for the oldest trap, but thanks for assuming I meant you.

(Hint: I posted just after hoonz. ;) )

• whoops, confusion fail, got Oliver's post confused with Balki's.

But hey, I like stating the bleeding obvious

• Jesus... what the hell happened in here... It was all going so well. Oliver was about to regail us with statistics on bike theft relative to bike use, Hoons was going to defend his nation and his suburb... Its all gone to shit.

• Dalston mate... Im way too "street" to live in Stokey.

Fair enough, it's all "road" in up in Stokey don't you know

• Admittedly, there is this old problem with Australians living in Stoke Newington.

I know, there's more and more of them every day. Soon there'll be a Walkabout. My un-aussie-afied area will become overrun with them and I'll have to move again. Bloody immigrants.

• Stolen fuji Track 2008 frame
Mavic Open pros, Ambrosio front hub and IRO rear black rims with black hubs
Specialised saddle,
Shimano pedals
Tiagra front break,
stock bars stock colours

Stolen from Charles Square in Hackney (from a secure lock up, the thief/s cut through the fence and my lock) will sort a reward if it is returned, no questions asked.

thanks,

James

• Well further to my post above it seems that there are some seriously audacious thieves out there as the office block where I work (and where my bike was stolen from) was entered again today and another attempted theft! If you work in the area or indeed in my office block get some better locks as that is 1 theft and one attempted theft from private property in 4 days.

This belonged to a friend - and she's gutted as might well be expected
