  • Kryptonite New York 3000 and an Evolution mini d work well for me. Weigh a ton but at least I can be pretty confident that my bike will be safe.

  • Word. Plenty of online shops are doing the Mini-Evolution Kryptonite for £25 at the moment. There's no excuse.

    link?

  • chains (goo wuality) - wirecuters (5 sec)
    wire(good quality) - wirecutters (5 sec)
d lock (good quality) - angle grinder (at least 5-10 mins, plus a lot of obvious noise)

i dont need to say any more.

    Mates

    Have a look of it

    What else we can buy...

  • parker international or cycle express

  • its not the material, it's the technique.

chains allow for locking to more varied objects, if you keep your chain tight and off the floor, you won't get through it in 5 seconds with wire cutters. you need bolt cutters, and the leverage of the floor and body weight to get through. take those fabric sleeves off your chain when you buy it, and chain the bike up as tight as possible.

and not only that, the technique on how to lock your bike properly, some people have the best lock money can buy and end up pointlessly lock their bike by their front wheel only, of which take a couple second to removed.

closer to the floor the easier it is to break them.

especially chains or wire since you can push all your body weights on the handle of the wire/bolt cutters. 5 secs max. honestly.

he took more than 5 secs cos he probably wasn't used to it.
But this video demonstrated how easy it is to break these shiite chains.

so basically your post is agreeing with snoop comment?

various seriously expensive motorbike chains chopped. #

Lesser bike chains would be a piece of piss

i guess so, now that ive re read it. Nevertheless, chains are ineffective.

  • chains are ineffective.

    ?!? wtvr

    your talking bang

  • chain are very effective, it's how you lock them in the first place that render them ineffective, an U-lock can be render ineffective if locked poorly as well;

please watch the videos and tell me otherwise.

fact is almost all chains are breakable whereas most decent D locks are not with bolt cutters.

because it was on the floor with a bolt cutter that you can't exactly buy from your local B&Q!

Have you not forget that D-locks are ineffective as well by simply using the bike as leverage and twist it to break it? all lock can be ineffective if used improperly.

There are professional bike thieves in London who I'm sure use these type of bolt cutters. You can buy them easily.

if you persist with the video he breaks some of the chains in an elevated position.

Im not here to argue ED, but the proof is there to show that chains break easily, they are vulnerable to attack.
Remember also that those chains in the video are the better, more expensive heavy duty motorbike chains. Lighter smaller gauge bike chains would break muich easier.

I would never recommend anyone to use a chain on their bike.

stolen actually, they tend to be stolen, usually from fire station.

I seen the video years ago, what you didn't notice is how loose the chain was, hence Snoops advice on making sure the chain is wrapped nice and tight, as oppose to just one loop on the front wheel of a motorbike allowing the theft to cut the chain any way he like, that why it break easily.

like I said, it's the locking technique that make the difference.

  • I had 4 punctures in my Rubino in less than a week, so no i wouldn't recommend them. IS that ok by you Ed ?

I would neither recommend using chains, is that ok for me to say that Ed ?

And those chain cutters you can get easily.

  • 4?? how the bloody hell did you managed that? did you not check the tyres inside and outside to see if there's any glass stuck inside?

I still recommended chain, as long you *lock it properly*, there shouldn't be any problem.

  • u don't need that much leverage to break a bike chain,
you could use long handle bolt cutters and break the chains just with your arms,
so whether the chain is done close to the frame and away from the ground isn't going to help.

  • There are professional bike thieves in London who I'm sure use these type of bolt cutters. You can buy them easily.

I've seen them hanging from the roof of a bike parts stall in Brick Lane Market.

  • I've seen it recommended that you should use a D lock and a chain. They require different tools to cut and your average bike thief only has one of these to hand.

  • Round my way I rather suspect that they go looking at the bikes, then come back with the tools that they need.

"Going equiped" is something that the police take seriously (they probably give you a Chinese burn), so it is better from the criminals perspective to only carry the tools they need when en-route to a thieving.

  • parker international or cycle express

Print out the page and take it to Cyclesurgery and they will price match

  • i hope you nicked the rucksack with the bolt cutters in
    pay back time

On a public forum I can neither confirm nor deny anything.

If you need anything cutting then let me know however.
