Cheers D3.
Scoped Brick Lane most of today. Horrible seeing people buying stolen bikes who should know better. Even a few middle class dads buying them for their kids.

I suspect the teenagers downstairs from me are fences for stolen bikes, or even nicking them themselves. Every few days their 'bikes' change. I find it hard to believe as they seem really nice polite lads.
I'm starting to take pictures of every new bike I see, should I be involving the police at this stage or should I do further stake out? I'm nervous about bringing in the law in case they find out it was me that dobbed them in. As much as I fucking hate bike thieves, I also value my own property and am wary of possible retaliation.
Advice welcomed ...

There's no reason they should find out. It goes without saying that any report made would be 100% confidential.
Report it, if you don't and they are thieves, more people may be losing their bikes and costing them a lot of money while you think about it. -

Hi Guys
My flat mate is beside himself after his brand new Electric Converted Brompton was stolen last night from Kentish Town.
He is offering a £100 reward for the successful recovery of the bike or information that gets it back:)
Its Bright Orange with an electric front wheel. But no battery . It has stickers that say Electric Transport Shop on it and a rear rack:)
If anyone can help please email me Simon at blokeonabike@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks Si

Just had my bike stolen. If anyone can let the rest of the bike community know I would really appreciate it.
Rebellato lo pro chrome frame scratched from removing paint
Corima disc 700c rear clincher fixed wheel

carbon seat with cheap padding ripped
carbon bmx riser bar with cheap rubber grips and thumb brake lever on right side
Shimano 105 front brake caliper

Didn't take pic of the whole bike with wheels as the wheels were added no longer than three weeks ago but have individual pics.Don't know how to post pics (Just tried on thread uploader and keeps failing!!)on here so if anyone can give me help on how to do that would really appreciate it

^ That's is the one I'm on about mate. He didn't know much info about the sizing, then didn't reply to my txt a few days ago when I inquired about viewing it so I could measure it.

Dolan Precursa Update/Advice sought:
So, its looking like Stokeys finest have opened then shut the case.
Just had a call basically informing me that as far as they can tell, he has legitimate ownership, as do I.
So, the option is to try and reach an agreement (he speaks barely a word of English - not fascist, just not sure how I'd go about communicating with the guy) or possibly go to court and fight it out.
The five-oh that called said in essence the guy should be chasing up the seller to get a refund. Well that also seems unlikely really doesn't it.
The saga continues.......

^ that makes me angry. Surely the guy has received stolen goods, how can he have legitimate ownership? If all else fails post his details so we can have a good old fashioned lfgss flaming
-
• #11669
yeah bit baffled tbh. if he's bought it from 'someone online' he can't even have a receipt and surely paid cash, so how can it be proved....
what gets me is they opened and shut the case and didn't inform me until now.
oh and turns out stupid honest me pointing out the shitty bars and post were added after it was nicked didn't help. Even though my initial report states different ones.

• #11670
not sure what you can do but I would follow it up anyway, kick up some sort of fuss
-
• #11671
Ugh, what? How does he have legit ownership?

Handling stolen goods isn't a crime anymore duh

Guess the receipt he got when he bought it was pretty convincing.
Only thing I can think of is that the original theft wasn't reported to the polis?
If it was and you have a crime number what the fuck are they playing at?

He has more than likely registered the bike at a police marking event and they are covering up the mistake of registering a stolen bike to some random. If they return the bike then the sudden "wtf is this marking" coin drop moment happens.

Jester, what proof did you provide them to show that it was yours?
