  • What do you guys reckon the "better" technique is, if your secondary can't do front+frame+object:

Front wheel to object, or front wheel to frame?

  • pitlock + front wheel to object... :)

  • Six years of pitlock + mini evo as primary

Ridgeback stickers are clearly a multiplier for the evo's apparent lack of hardiness

I wouldn't use it to lock my CAAD9 but then again I wouldn't lock it anywhere.

  • pitlock + front wheel to object... :)

D-Lock through wheel, frame and one of his ears?

  • I'm really wary of pitlocks and the like because I think the scrotes who steal bikes are not even a little bit above fucking up your rims, frame etc when they think they're getting a wheel, come closer and are thwarted...

Big fan of "visible security" hence the M18.

Which is so heavy it never leaves the house. Great.

  • Mmmm. People are shitty.

I think the best bet is to only ever lock up a ride that won't attract them in the first place. Hence ratty Ridgeback fixed with mudguards. Appreciate this isn't helpful to those who want to lock up more flamboyant kit.

  • I find two minis and a cable is plenty. I wont leave a bike overnight though.

  • I forgot to post this at the time, but just in case any of you guys spot this bad boy!

Lemond Fillmore stolen 4th June 2013.

    Thanks

  • Just to let everyone know, the police are totally useless at tracing owners.

I bought a bike from an auction, stolen recovered by the police. Had it listed on ebay, just had the police round at 8am WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE BIKE WHO REPORTED IT STOLEN. So even though the bike was found by the police, they couldn't be bothered to actually find the owner and just sent it to be sold.
We came to an agreement that he paid me exactly what it cost me, and it was nice to have such a lovely bike reunited with it's owner, but still left me rather pissed off at all my wasted effort to buy it, collect ect....

  • So the police, or more likely some private contractor, are profiting from crime/incompetence...

    typical.

  • Ride a rat.
Lock it with sommat that would be more effort then gain.
Save your best bike for Sunday's, weddings and Christenings.

  • but so heavies!

  • Heavy or not, those locks could've saved my bike from the hands of utter cunts.

  • ^^ Extra training, more calories burned, get to eat more. Win.

  • wow lots of stolen bike!!

  • STOLEN : Giant defy 3 2014 white/red
    **North Essex / Colchester **

My 15 year old nephew had his brand new bike half-inched last night. He'd saved up for ages.
The last thing you'd expect in West Bergholt, a sleepy little commuter village, well off the scrote radar.

Any of you good folk in these parts, please keep a look out for it in the usual places.

Raceface Evolve stem, specialised saddlebag+pump+tyres, SPD pedals and Giant muguards and unique finishing kit, as above.
    Cheers.

  • Had my garage broken into in Blackheath last night. Cut through two padlocks, smashed the alarm then cut through the wall anchor. Two bikes were locked together with a Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit Mini and a Magnum Plus chain, so they decided the anchor was the weakest point.

The two locked bikes were a Cube AMS 125 2009 like this:

    http://www.2009.cuberussia.ru/f/products_new/ams_125_p1_8289.jpeg

But with Reba forks, a Hope headset and Maxxis tyres.

The other was a Felt F75 like this:

But with yellow Look Keo pedals and Michelin Pro 4 tyres.

I'm most upset about losing my recently restored 1956 Claude Butler track frame:

    Which was unfortunately not locked.

They obviously knew what they were doing and came prepared. Arseholes.

If anyone comes across any of these, especially the Claude, please let me know.

  • That's fucking grim.
I hope you have some luck.

  • Fuck me. No-one can say you didn't do you best on security... wankers.

I'll keep an eye out for any shifty shitheads. They could well try to sell your CB for all of pennies on Brick Lane. For some reason I've found that "swanky" branded ones like the cube tend to find themselves on gumtree, I think you can get some more cash by meeting up with a specific buyer.

  • Cheers all - I'll keep my eyes peeled online and will check Brick Lane.

The wall anchor wasn't great, we've only just moved in and was waiting until payday to order a sold secure gold one. Proof your locks are only as good as their weakest point. Good luck to them getting the Fahg off though...

This is unnerving to say the least.

They'll have no trouble once they are back at their lair with power tools. Even with a hand saw a fahg won't last long...

I'm seriously thinking GPS + retrieval is the only real strategy if I ever own anything precious - no security is infallible :(

  • Had my Gary Fisher 2009 Triton stolen from NW1 on Friday night. Dismantled the street furniture and lifted the whole lot about fifteen feet over the top.

It's this one bought from this very site if anyone spots it:

  • Looks like its that time of year again, scrotes are stocking up on bikes for the spring fixie biek demand spike.

Up in Glasgow I've seen /heard of a sudden increase too :(
