Maybe if you're a 16 year old girl.

I think you meant to say you need Grotius.

Faraday isn't, and I think De Sade is borderline.
Faraday was a 'natural philosopher', which means he didn't shave his balls; and De Sade wrote 'Philosophy in the Bedroom'.

Objectivism might be just egoism on steroids and poorly thought over a societal scale but that doesn't mean it should be sidelined!

Rand is, how dare you. After she wrote the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, she wrote and lectured on objectivism.
Kant ;)

De Sade was only using philosophical hedonism to justify his niche (and pretty childish) erotic writings. Not saying he wasn't a raw badass (that's a taken) but it's hardly serious stuff.

It's a system which is flawed through-and-through (according to people I respect - I obviously have not devoted any of my studies to Ayn Rand. For this you can criticize me, but it doesn't mean it's not true). But that is why it's sidelined. It's unoriginal. The only people who moan about this are the people silly enough to be convinced they're some type of ubermensch.
If you want to read academic libertarian philosophy, get some Kukathas.

Depends what you mean by serious. He got locked up and tortured for writing it, so someone didn't find it funny!

I wish my raw badass would be taken more often

I don't know if I can take these puns anymore. I might have to Bayle out.

I'm not arguing that it isn't a poor system, but I get edgy when people dismiss theories with no real justification. Happened to Nietzsche for years and years, and I'm a huge fan of his. I guess you can chalk me up as one of those silly people (although I'm under no illusions about being some superman myself).
I'm not going to criticize you for not studying her, I can't say I've gone into HUGE depth, no-one has the time to study everyone properly.
You study or just an interested party?

I don't find Jeremy Beadle funny, doesn't mean he's serious.

120 Days of Sodom, and comparing it to Pier Paolo Pasolini's recently un-banned film Salo which is based on the book. The film is so-so, and has some dark moments, but the subject matter isn't handled very well.
The book is better, but some times I get the feeling that De Sade was writing like a teenager out to shock. It's got its merits but I don't think it's all its hype.
