  • No further than you maybe but probably further than their own legs could have carried them in a given time.

You're effectively boasting that you're faster than other people because you can do the same journey in the same time and have a rest in the middle. You are not better than anyone else. These people are merely misguided.

I am no where near the fastest person on a bike so I will not be boasting about that. But you do have a point maybe theses poor people are just slow.

  • when bloddy pedestrians stop j-walking, i'll stop the rlj's...

  • when bloddy pedestrians stop j-walking, i'll stop the rlj's...

On that basis car drivers will start regularly running red lights and it all gets worse.

Just be responsible for yourself. You can not control everyone else.

  • Jaywalking does not exist in this country. (unfortunately)
traffic must give way to pedestrians

i don't think that is unfortunate. it's one case where common sense still holds out

  • But the fedz is busted me and my nergers for smoking j'z the other day, so of course jwalking is forbidden and shit.

  • I too, neither think it's unfortunate, since it'd mean that the driver will likely to be in the wrong if they hit a peds thus they're generally a lots calmer around peds than the American counterpart (apart from cities like New York where peds seemed to have priority).

digs, since you know that peds often cross the road without looking, this little information you've gather mean that you can able to avoid them by taking the necessary manoverve (such as primary position, going slower than you usually do while overtaking vehicles etc.).

  • I strongly welcome the fact that crossing roads or streets on foot is generally permitted in this country. It's definitely a bastion of common sense.

  • oh yeah i hastened to mention that i cross roads wherever is most convenient, but with a sharp london cyclists eye and processing power i do it a lot safer than the annoying nobrain acts one often comes across.

if only all us humans made the necessary maneuvers when necessary...

Which is all fine and dandy except the majority of pedestrians in London don't use common sense. Why bother having dedicated crossings if nobody uses them?

Might as well have a free-for-all or just pedestrianise the whole town. It seems the more freedom people get the more they abuse other people's freedom.

As humans are getting worse and worse at performing very basic tasks, such as merely walking along a pavement in a straight line or crossing a road courteously and safely, it makes sense to introduce some form of governance. Where's the Green Cross Code Man when you need him?

  • I think he was killed by the emperor.

  • It's the eyes, the chilling blankness in the eyes that gets me, as they stand in the middle of the road 4 metres from a crossing point, about to walk straight out in front of you.

    Guarding Hotblack Desiato?

I'd have settled for seeing the eyes of the chap I hit a week or so back*. Unfortunately he trotted briskly into the road to hail a cab, facing away from me.

*I stayed on (+1 to playing rugby as a kid) and he was very obviously unhurt. To his credit he bounced up and apologised. First time I've hit a ped since I was a kid :-(

  • In the Peckham area the peds tend to look you in the eye as they walk into the road in front of you, as if they are staring you down.

I've now attached old tyres to the front wings to stop them damaging the paintwork.

  • Just redline the engine and drop the clutch, that usually gets them moving.

  • That's akin to them overtly dawdling.

  • But it's ok, you can run them over, it's not illegal, you won't get done.

  • It's only legal if you get out after the accident and place a mangled bike frame next to their body.

  • Watertight then.

  • I saw someone jump a red light this morning and almost get hit by a brakeless rider wearing headphones. I thought that was quite irresponsible. Or was it the brakeless rider who jumped the lights? I can't be certain, but irresponsible nonetheless

  • They both had helmets on so it's all ok.

  • I know what you look like Beatleman.. no need to post your photo everywhere.
