  • Xander - myself and the guys I have been riding Audax events with will be riding a few 'perms' over the next few weeks/ months - before the big calandered events start in Spring - I think the next we are planning is the Around Weald 200km on the 23rd Fed - its a way off now but if people are interested then I'm sure we'd be keen to have a bigger group of us!

I would be interested in joining you for this :) Sounds like the hardest 200 to date for me though!

I missed it back in the summer, and I didn't know it was a perm?

EDIT: and great train links from central to the start as well, awesome

  • Versalius - absolutley, it's easy to get to the start from London bridge or the Overground from to Croydon as well is just a few miles form the start...

I did attempt it before Christmas with the same guys, we dropped out after 100km as the wether was beyond a joke - it was raining so much our gloves were filling up with water and hands were going blue and numb. To date I have only ever completed 1 200km audax (though strangely have a 100% success rate with the other relevant SR distances over that).

I've been pretty slack so far this year so I'm not sure of dates yet but I reckon I'll try and pencil in the other Audax run by the same organiser in the next few weeks as well - I'll have a look at proposed dates and get back to you!

Also - I'm sure we met on the Anfractuous? I was riding a knackered old black Ridgeback touring bike...

    Joel

  • Oh god that sounds brutal :s

Yeah I definitely remember! And was the anfractuous your only 200? Jumping straight into an SR at 300km level is bloody admirable haha!

And what's the other event that you're thinking of? the 160km one or one of the smaller ones?

    Come on the willy warmer!

  • Just put the Willy Warmer in my phone GPS, waiting for my Garmin eTrex 20 to arrived so I can use that one.

Which train are you taking again Vesalius?

  • I'll be going the night before and sleeping over in the village hall,
pint the night before, a relaxed start, and free breakfast, I couldn't say no :p

  • I think the next we are planning is the Around Weald 200km on the 23rd Fed - its a way off now but if people are interested then I'm sure we'd be keen to have a bigger group of us!

    I'd be keen for that.

  • Excellent - 23rd Feb it is then!

I will also ride on the 8th/9th Feb - probably do the 160km Audax by the same organiser - how about that as well?

  • Here is a suggested 'Group Perm' for those planning on riding LEL/ other Audax's this year.

    Saturday 9th Feb - 'Sussexy Beast' 160km Audax - http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/WW10/ as a 'perm'.

We can start from any Control on the course so I'd suggest Oxted as its closest to London.

If anyone is interested in joing then please do - just send of your entry for the brevet card and pray for dry weather.

Probably aim to start the ride around 9ish!

Obviously, if anyone non-cycling asks you were you are going that day, make sure you don't mention anything about the name - "I'm off to ride the Sussexy Beast" - probably won't do you any favours.

  • Norfolk Nips 100 has been cancelled. Bah.

  • Ice?

  • Been snowing quite a bit in Norfolk I gather. I'm annoyed, spent money on train tickets I can't use now (06.30 to Norwich for sale, anybody?!)

  • Skully if you'd been up here the last few days you wouldn't want to ride in it at all.

    Conditions are dreadful.

On the plus side this bad weather has made me want a Pompino for winter.

  • Go to Norwich anyway Skully, just go to the pub instead.

A few forumengers and I have tickets booked for Norfolkshire for a ride on the 27th, I'm hoping it will have melted by then.

  • Come on the willy warmer!

    Ironically named, it would appear.

Currently in for this. have numerous doubts - most of all regarding the fact I have a 7:30 dinner appointment. Which I should really keep.

Reckon a 10 hour Returnee is possible in these conditions on 23mm gatorskins?

    :/

  • Never mind. just seen it's cancelled.

  • Named appropriately!

Yeah it's a bloody shame but the snow and ice are treacherous on anything but well gritted roads. If i cycled down my road I will have fallen off by the end of it, and this is london letalone out in teh countryside where it's even colder

I do hope it clears up by next saturday, RRTY will be pretty screwed if it hasn't

  • Annoying, I was prepping my bicycle for the ride (Continental Top Contact Winter II) and memorising the route.

Still, best to be safe and sound.

  • do it this weekend if the weather improves!

  • Excellent - 23rd Feb it is then!

I will also ride on the 8th/9th Feb - probably do the 160km Audax by the same organiser - how about that as well?

Alas, I'll be snowboarding that weekend.

  • Willy Warmer rescheduled to saturday and have been offered a place on LEL, get in!

  • anyone warming their willy this weekend?

    Hello, my audacious friends,

In my last email I said I'd look at options to reschedule the Willy Warmer for this weekend. It looks like the worst of the weather is behind us so having sorted out some administrative details it looks like we're good to go for 8am, Saturday, Jan 26th.

AUK regulations don't really allow for the rescheduling of Calendar events, so technically it’s now a "Snow Cancelled Perm". Basically, you ride the Calendar event route, collecting receipts and answers to info control questions as usual, then return the brevet card and “brevidence” to me, The major difference is that the Snow Perm is valid for one month from the date of the Calendar event, i.e., until Feb 18, incl. If you ride after Saturday, return the brevet and brevidence to me by post; my address is on the card. n.b., I have yet to confirm whether the Brevet will be recorded with the date of the calendar event or the actual ride date, so RRTYers, don't assume you can ride in February and have it count as a January ride.

If you're not available on Saturday and elect to ride another day, you can "sign-on" with a coffee at Halls Cafe/Patisserie in Chalfont St Peter (in the parade of shops by the Car Park/HSBC in the High Street. Halls is open from 7am, Mon-Sat; alas if you ride on a Sunday you'll have to settle for an ATM receipt. Either way, collect the Brevet from the LuLaBelle Cafe in Pangbourne which is now open every day, just ask for an "Audax Card" at the counter. LuLaBelle opens at 10am on Sundays; if you are early, knock on the door and they'll let you in. At Hungerford and on your Arrivee at Chalfont, collect receipts as for a regular unmanned control.

I've had a couple of enquiries from riders who did not enter the Calendar event who are interested in riding. Riders on Saturday can sign on at the Arrivee. To ride another day, enter using the DIY Perm directions on the AUK website by post or online (I'm the DIY Org for the SE Region). To enter online, if you need a DIY brevet go to https://www.aukweb.net/forms/diycards.php, then enter the DIY Perm using the entry form at https://www.aukweb.net/forms/entryformdiy.php (set the start point field to " WW Snow Perm" and leave the control fields blank)..

The WW had a record entry this year and I'm hoping many of you will be able to make it on Saturday, so the plan is to open the community centre "business as usual" (though I'll be looking for kitchen volunteers!).

PLEASE can you email me by reply to indicate whether you expect to ride on Saturday so I know how many to expect. Similarly if you plan to ride another day you MUST let me know by email beforehand.

Please let the first line of your email read ">>>WWSP DD-MMM where DD MMM is the day and month of your proposed ride.

    Any questions, just email me.

    Best regards,

    Paul Stewart
    Organiser, Willy Warmer

  • ...and have been offered a place on lel, get in!

    win

  • Willy officially warmed, jan 200 done

one thing I learnt yesterday, is the importance of getting enough sleep prior to rides.
The past week I've been going to bed far too late, and between 50-100k I was literally almost nodding off on the bike, and my legs felt like lead. A coffee perked me up for the rest of the ride thankfully.
If it was a 300 or 400 i imagine I'd be in trouble later on...

  • Willy officially warmed, jan 200 done

Managed to drag myself round this yesterday too - lovely riding weather for most of it

  • ^Ah! I thought I recognised the name on yacf!

I was the brown guy on the yellow steel bike, did we cross paths?
