3. DISTANCES. At least 360km must be covered during the 24 hours but you should plan more e.g. 400k or 500k as your target.
The team will be validated if the actual distance covered is within 20% above or below the one stated before the ride (with an absolute minimum of 360km) E.g. if you plan a 450km route the team must ride between 360 and 540kmI assume, that if we are flying and get to 22hr control a couple of hours early, we can just chill and set off again at 22hrs?

Or since there's a 20% allowance is it easier to plan for doing 500k and then if you only make 400 you're still cool. Better than stopping and starting and then just waiting around for the last hour to ride 25k.
Then again, as it's a group there's more chance for shit to go wrong so maybe being conservative is better.

Plus, I'll have Hardboiled legs maybe still.

Ha, yeah always seemed loads of rules in relation to it. But sounds like it could be fun.
Also, very flat.

You on the list?
-
• #8536
Is there a max number? If I'm up to that kind of distance I'd be keen to join in, but I don't want to take someone locals/more qualified/more known to you guys' place.
Rode Manchester to Bristol (330km) in 37 hours including a full sleep on a loaded tourer at the summer so have an idea of what to expect at least. -

Good, that should keep you in line. ;)

All of this is on the proviso I actually have a bike by April. :S

Teams of 3-5 riders.
So I reckon we have a drunken fist fight to see who rides.
-
• #8543
Or, like, draw straws.
-
• #8544
So the max is 5, but we can send off different teams at different times.
2. START TIMES. Teams may start from Friday 06:00 to Saturday 10:00hrs. The start time must be adhered to. Different teams may not ride together. If several teams use the same starting point and route the start times for the individual teams shall be spaced at least one hour apart.

So google maps shows it at massively under distance.
If we adlib a route to dunmow, and completely rip off Flatlands to Goole, then revert to Market Weighton or some other on to York, Google maps gets 429.That's 24hr doable if we all ride with marathon plus tires.
I'll whip a quick map up....
Here we are
Dunmow to Goole is 328, Victoria to Dumnow is about 80, so it looks about right at 450.
The next question is, if we only manage 450-20% = 360km, we still get validated?

@7ven was interested when we last discussed it (pg.319)
-
• #8547
Two of my mates are semi interested so I'm keen to try and do it with them and in turn get them more into Audaxing.
Would be cool to start close by to hopefully bump into some forum riders though.

I'm riding single speed, if that influences anything? I don't think it would considering it's the flattest possible route
So we have at the minute
1) hippy (400km lead out man)
2) j_a_m_e_s (route)
3) Super_ted (beer carrier 1)
4) cjr (beer carrier 2)
5) alialias (confused northerner)(I don't think mustardbeak actually added himself, in fact, I know it was me)
It's a long way off yet, so gives me plenty of time to the the gpx, and you lot to check it out for the inevitable mistake that leads us down a dirt track at early o'clock in the pissing rain.
Plenty of time for hippy to get another bike
Plenty of time to unconfuse the northerner.@cjr @Super_Ted @alialias
Does Victoria sound like an okay place to start. It's central. Me and hippy are out west (different parts) and I assume the confused northerner does realise I mean London Victoria and not Manchester Victoria. -

If we accidentally plan similar routes and accidentally cross paths a few times, would that be cricket?
-
• #8550
Would but currently in hospital in Whitechapel with a fractured T12 vertebrae after coming off on the way to work on Tuesday :( Pretty high though
The rules are why you get someone else to be captain :p
