Hm. I got into the station with about two minutes to spare, which gave me enough time to buy a ticket then miss the train because it left at 8:52 instead of 8:53. Good start!

Let me know what time the next train you're taking so i can wait at the station for your unfortunate arrival.

I've already left on the next one! 9:06 first cap connect. Next one is 9:11 I think?
We're no TNRC, that's for sure :/

Good ride out yesterday, nice to bump into some forumers. Got pretty lucky with the weather too, only got a little bit of rain near the finish.

I think the weather was perfect for riding despite being a tad damp, was a very pleasant relaxing route too.
great seeing some of you too, don't think I've seen you yet bothwell.

Yep, was a nice day out even in spite of it being possibly the biggest organisational disaster I've ever managed on a bike*. Really nice atmosphere there, too - a lot of cool people riding with some fun bikes too. Two tandems!
*Missed the train. Got the next train which took a whopping 40 minutes to get there. Almost missed the start. Lost my brevet card somewhere between the start and the first control. Realised at this point that I'd forgotten to bring my water bottle. Missed the second control completely by following another group of people who'd got lost. Foolishly overtook those same people thus failing to realise they'd stopped to check their map and turned back. Didn't see Ed once even though we must surely have only been 5 minutes apart at any time. Then when I eventually got back into London I got epically lost coming out of Kings Cross and turned the 7 mile journey back home into a 14 mile journey.
After missing the second control I basically gave up on the idea of doing it properly and figured I'd just enjoy the ride. So much had gone wrong already that I didn't want to risk enraging the pagan god of Audax any further. That's what I get for not having a beard, I think. The only things that didn't go wrong are the things that wouldn't have mattered much if they had - no mechanicals but I had a full toolkit with me; no punctures but I had a puncture repair kit, tyre boot, pump and three spare tubes; didn't lose any gloves but I had two pairs, etc etc.

Booked my christmas holidays today so going to do a wintery permanent on two in Essex. Which means sending an SAE to some old bloke with a beard. It's worryingly like Blue Peter.

Pretty late entry for this saturdays "Upper Thames 212km"

Anyone signed up/interested in coming along?

Ugh, would be but going with my girlfriend to Ealing to get her fitted properly.
The plus side is that if she end up being more comfortable on longer 100km ride, she can join me on audax ride.
-
• #865
Next one then!
Bike fit sounds like a great shout before starting longer rides :)

Thinking about this one at the end of November. Has El Supremo catering which I've yet to try.

Look Good, I'm thinking of doing a 400k soon to work my way up to the Ldn-Edinburgh-LDN audax.

It's a little late season for a 400k.
I'd be more inclined to consider getting more 300's under the belt and maybe some back to back 200's until March. I reckon that would do more for your endurance and make it easier to bump up to the 600s which start in May.

What's the time limit for a 400km? Do people tend to do them all in one chunk, or take a kip?
-

I think 400s are done in one sitting, according to an experienced audaxer I asked that to.
600s involve a sleep

Cheers for that. If I sign up for an event without joining Audax and just pay for day membership (£2?) do I still make it into the Audax record books?
Could I do a 100 this year, then a 200 next year, etc?
-

Not sure on that one Sparky. There's a good one leaving from Norwich that I did earlier this year. The food at the stops is lovely too.
-
• #873
Many people say that 400s are harder than 600s owing to the lack of sleep.

Whilst I'm here, it seems that I may end up clogging up this section of the audaxuk website this season whilst doing my attempt at RRTY (randonneur round the year)
after July 2013 none of my rides will appear there anymore :'(

I'm intrigued by this, but I wouldn't have the time to devote in one year to get a 100, 200, 300, 400, 600 done, etc. But if I could do them as and when then it's much more likely. I'm toying with the idea of LEL over on the other thread, but I don't necessarily need to do any shorter rides to qualify for that.
^yeah, the last few miles are all on some crazy cycleway - was a bit of a challenge to plot it on the garmin!
