Now I'm not riding fixed, that'll be a cinch. 😜
I'll probably ride home too. 😃

FWIW, that section of roads north of Glasgow up past Loch Lomond and over Glen Coe is an absolute horror show for bad driving. I would certainly not want to cycle over Rannoch Moor and down Glen Coe, whatever the views look like.

How come? Holiday traffic?

It's the arterial route up from the central belt to the west coast. You get a lot of caravans, which backs people up, and the road is not super-wide. The locals "know all the corners", and so tend to drive/overtake much faster than you would think is sensible. (Down the coast to Oban and back over, which looks to be the return from Fort William, is quieter).
Last time I was up that way, the road surface was also in bad shape, so I suspect on a bike you'd do a lot of dodging.
I haven't cycled in Romania, so maybe it's mild by comparison.

Haha yeah, everyone has different measures of 'busy' or 'risky'.
Assuming something like Devon. I can't say I enjoyed riding up the A30 which is dual lane but the small-dicked wonderbuckets that insist on passing caravans as the caravans are trying to safely go around me, forcing them back inwards, made for some fun times. Romanian dogs took five years off my life. -

Can also confirm this, I remember driving over there a few years back and seeing an oblivious caravan towing driver miss a cyclist by about an inch.
It's probably better at night. -

I actually don't know as don't think the routes have been made public but I would assume so?
-
• #8359
Yeah, that's kind of my thinking too. Don't know if it could be one of things I regret and then having to wait another 4 years to have another go....

If you haven't done PBP, I would recommend it. I'm still qualifying for it even though I will probably be doing something else, just in case.
-
• #8361
I've only ever done a few, but would like to do a 200km event, and maybe a 300. Maybe fixed. Basically get back to being comfortable with riding distance and make sure my knees are stable and supported enough to do so.
Inspired by you nutjobs in here.

I resemble that remark!
Might go "round, round, round, round, I get around" this weekend...

Next year is looking like an SR, including BCM and (I may regret this) the Pendle 600.
Definitely doing Oasts and Coasts again as it's such an enjoyable 300.
I had originally thought about doing PBP as it's so long until the next one, but it doesn't actually look that enjoyable so may not bother.

Who does the AUK Google Calendar updates? I want next year...
-
• #8365
Ah the Pendle is another one I've wanted to do for a while as it's meant to be super hard. I might enter that instead of the North Coast 600. It's closer too.
-
• #8366
Fuck it, I've entered the Pendle 600. That's 4x600 in 4 weeks.

Click on Calender Events on the left. You can then alter at the top to up to 2 years.

Pendle is defo one of the hardest 600's. Did it for my qualifier in '15.

"Google" calendar. I have AUK events showing up in my Google Calendar so (if they were there) I could jump into next year and quickly see which events I've entered and other events on other weekends, etc.

hippy
http://www.aukweb.net/events/ ??
Everything confirmed should already be up there... I don't know if it being a PBP year affects some events going ahead or not, though, eg non-BRMs

• #8371
Ah, in which case, fuck knows.
-
• #8372
Yep I've been comparing the BCM route with the Pendle.
It's actually making me look forward to the BCM as an 'easy' 600 : /

Hippy getting Honked & Bonked at once.

• #8374
BCM is a breeze in comparison.

I know how to use the AUK website calendar. A nice feature to have is their Google Calendar - all the events appear in my personal calendar.

Yep, I may do it this year but it's lower down the list - slightly different to James if I'm already riding on one day of a weekend, I can usually get away with both days if I keep the subsequent ones free!
