think it's when you get to the start and there's a list of extra controls not advertised on the event page. to prevent people googling shit? maybe.

On PBP you have to follow a particular route, so a "secret" control is just one along the way that is unadvertised, where you have to get a stamp. They also have food etc, obvs

I've just done this too and still slightly in two minds over PBP...

I think there may be secret controls on WCW too.

The point of them is that you don't know where on the route they will be, so you have to follow the entire route in case you miss them (in which case your ride won't be validated). They're sort of coming back in the UK as a way of keeping routes close to their nominal distances (so you don't get a 600 that is actually 640km on the road, or without cluttering the ride with lots of info controls) using the 'mandatory route' option that are now in the rules and regs.

In the UK a secret control can just be someone in a lay-by at the side of the road. So you can't expect food or shelter.

The secret control(s) on PBP are slightly different, they usually do have food, beds, shelter, etc. Unless you're at the pointy end of the race they're also not very secret after the first few people get there and tweet about them.

I've signed up for WCW too.

How are people getting too/from the event? Not sure the train will work for a 6am start but it's close enough to London that a hotel seems very extravagant.

You're coming to PBP whether you like it or not.

Ride out. If you're qualifying for PBP you can do with the training :)

Not allowed to do PBP until the boy is old enough to ride it with me. WCW is a consolation prize.

I'm not doing BCM, will do WCW and there's one in Edinburgh that's got my interest.
The one done by the London club, the Wander Wye? also looks interesting so I'll probably throw an entry in for that one.

Just entered the Fort William 1000 as a warm up for PBP next year.

Andy Corless ride from Blackpool area up to Fort Bill and back. There is also a 1200 which continues on the Inverness, but I'm saving my first 1200 for PBP
