  • Anyone riding A Mere 200 on Sunday?

  • Is there an issue with the AUK member area? I'm still not seeing my 200s from Oct and Jan.

  • The website was down for a few days last week, maybe they had to restore from a backup and haven't reloaded the latest results.

  • Had another look and Jan is in there as Provisional but no Octobe yet. Might email the organiser about it laterz.

  • Forecast looks quite pleasant for tomorrow so I've registered to ride a perm. Better make sure that my Garmin set to record. Left it a bit last minute so I could be sure about the weather and being able to take a day out. Paul's (Stewart) website is down at the moment so I emailed him to enter.

  • Back from A Mere 200, nice day out, pleased to have finished 15-20 minutes quicker than last year.

Really need to get myself on something with some AAA points though...

  • DNF a flat 200. Let's say it was a homage to the big Steve.

  • Tomorrow, being Monday?

    Much cheating. So truant.

  • Yep, it was today. Not a big fan of hills so why did I make my perm so hilly? It's just shy of qualifying for AAA points.

Wet and muddy down those lanes with more potholes than I remember. Looked like I'd been riding cyclocross when I got home. First time I've ridden a 200 with only 2 proper breaks: one at 85km and one at 140km. My usual ride time is about 2 hours but I felt on good form so allowed myself to keep going to see if I would crash later on. There definitely was a dip but not as bad as I had expected.

I work freelance and one day a week when I go to a place of work so I can be fairly flexible.

  • Your own DIY or a regular perm? It was nice this morning in the sun. But windy heading south though...

  • It was my own DIY loosely based on the Man of Kent perm. Here is the route if you're interested.

  • Has anyone here ridden Perms in the Cotswolds? Have some friends near South Cerney who want to invite me for the weekend so I thought I'd take the opportunity.

  • I haven't but would be up for doing one that starts in Cirencester as my family is close.

  • I rode a tri at South Cerney a few years ago. All I remember about it was doing a bottle cage fail and dropping my bottle on the road. Nice rolling hills.

  • On the perms page under Stephen Poulton there is a long list of rides but only a few have routes. I'm guessing for the others you create your own.

Think what I'll do is find a calendar ride in the area and adjust it a bit to make a DIY perm.

  • Working Sunday so taking tomorrow off to ride Ditchling Devil as a perm. Wish I had taken today off, weather is great, tomorrow is looking a bit wet and windy.

  • Going to be weird riding it without bacon sandwiches and cakes at the controls!

  • You know you're allowed to buy bacon sandwiches and cakes at control points still? ;)

  • Bit odd bashing on the door of a village hall or the house of the chairman of the local cycling club and demanding bacon rolls and cake though.

Dunno, that might just work for you.

  • Obviously I meant the 'village' of the 'village hall' but make enough noise and I'm sure you'll get what you want, even if it is served by your local police officer to your cell...

  • Will definitely be trying to go in the garden! One of the highlights of the ride usually!

I think I will ride out to devils dyke without stopping and have lunch and a beer in the pub before heading back.

  • @hippy I know, I know. Quite different controls on the perm though, there is no alternative control in Highbrook itself but I still think you get to go down the nice road past it.

One year I'm going to work out a short cut straight from the info control at The Devil's Dyke pub straight over to Fulking (missing out Saddlescombe and Poynings). Might be "interesting" on 23mm tyres though. For no other reason than I'm an idiot.

  • I was actually contemplating doing this on the weekend for something different. Paudax is down at the moment though so if I did I'd have to email him to sort it out.

  • I'm planning on avoiding howe lane and going up portnalls road instead, much better road surface and you end up at the same place.

  • You can enter it via the Audax UK site
