Signed up for my first audax this year, and my first 200 in a long time with the Great Escape from LMNH.
thought I'd better use my audax bike for some actual audaxin'.

Nice one. Was good to meet you. We saw you going round the Quantion loop. You must have clocked a pretty fast time, not that it matters that much on audax, but still, I'm quite impressed at how fast some people ride and keep it up for that sort of distance.

Still feel bad I didn't ride to/from the start of LOL.
Was a good ride aside from a bleak point 150k in where it was cold and raining and I started questioning why I was doing it at all. But that quickly passed after a coffee at the next control and the last section was great.
Anyone doing Oasts & Coasts? http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/15-545/ seems a relatively easy to get to start (from South London anyway) for a 300k. -

A pleasure to met you too. I am sorry I pedalled off. Just zoned off and went into my own world. I arrived at the lido by 6.05. I had one flat and help some on with one and it added 30 mins to my time. 150 miles for the day and it felt good. The return from ox ford was much hillier which was lovely. :) I would off Cycled home to Oval afterwards but I had three beers and the short cycle to the station was more than enough lol

I am planning to do this . I cant do 3 down audax to family and work commitments but I am down for this :)
-
• #3385
Found your Talbot on here. Nice meeting you! You guys made my last miles from High Wycombe.
-
• #3386
I've put Oasts and Coasts in my calendar but haven't booked it yet. Will see how I get on with the Green and Yellow fields first.
-
• #3387
I am considering the oasts and coasts as my first 300k, have a free weekend and can get a train from blackheath to near the start
-
• #3388
OK, so does anyone want my Great Escape entry? I can't do it any more
-
• #3389
For those doing the Wormingford audax on the 28th and travelling by train from Liverpool St. to Colchester, you can get big discounts by booking the tickets in advance. Normal price is £24.30 and the Advance is £9.00 each way. Just booked mine. Will lose £18.00 should I DNS but hopefully the weather will be nice.

OK, so can't do The Great Escape any more. Have mailed the organiser about my DNS and asked whether they can donate my entry to http://oneyeartimetrial.org.uk/donate
Much better.

Guessing you were the guy I was talking to about my frame? Was a good group for that last section. Sorry I didn't stick around at end - wanted to make it home before my daughter went to bed (which I managed, just).
Keen to get on and do a 300, but think oasts and coasts is first weekend free of family commitments. Really should have started audaxing before having a child... -

The Dean
What's the steepest climb on this? I'm going to take the TT bike as it's easier on my shoulder but it has a straight block on it which might fuck me up if there's anything I need to 'honk' over. Should I put on my 28T climbing cassette?

Steepest climb? Somerset Monument just before Hawkesbury Upton. Probably tops at 18-20% but average is shallower. Not a lot of space for tacking and the lead in is pretty lumpy and draggy.
Also there's the double header of Broad Town and Hackpen hills on the way to Marlborough. Neither that long but both entries are draggy. Honking is likely so bring what gears you can.
Also it a long day with a few pokey little ramps that can catch you in the wrong gear.

Yep, sensible option is to fit it. Cheers.
-
• #3395
Do it in style. Just pretend you are on 84 fixed and walk the few yards.
-
• #3397
I've done the Dean without walking on 67" fixed.
HTFU.
The bits that had me swallowing my lungs back down were:-
- Somewhere in the Forest of Dean. Littledean maybe. A village where each driveway has a cattle grid on it as the sheep are roaming free in the road.
- One of the last bits of the climb up to St Briavels
- The climb of out Chepstow
- Somerset Monument
- Hackpen/Marlborough

It's not about my climbing ability (or lack of) it's about not stressing my collarbone and shoulder.

Multiple hill climb champion, no?
Don't go hiding your light under a bushel.

I lost the title this year and no longer have to defend it. #thankfuck
None of my club champs were won after breaking my arm.
Doing this ride as well; the rider on the Surly tractor on Sunday talked me out of Wales and AAA points.
