  • I can't be bothered with all that. I've probably done a RRtY in distance terms before but actually sorting out a bunch of paperwork and routes and crap just to get a badge turns me right off. Same as the Festive 500 - I'll do it but I can't be arsed with the badges and Strava these days.

  • I think I'm with you on the can't be bothered with the badges and paperwork side. My main reason for doing it would be the motivation and focus to keep me riding. I'm really enjoying it all at the moment and if this RRtY thing helps me to maintain it for the rest of the year that would be fantastic. Whatever works in that respect really. Being on the audax roll of honour isn't like getting Olympic gold but does have a quiet satisfaction to it like giving anonymously to charity.

  • Steve Abraham would have possibly 28 RRtY in 2015.

  • Brazier's Run 100

Sadly, I can't make this, just no time. Sorry for bedwetting. :(

  • But he's not submitting his rides as DIYs is he? So they don't count, right?

  • The serious answer to this question would be that he has other priorities at the moment?

  • Obviously. But you brought it up.

  • It is just a different currency for his achievements. Go Steve.

  • I am planning on doing LOL this year and it will be my first ever audax. Very excited but nervous
Any tips you guys would give to a newbie

  • I can definately do Sunday 1st,so would be well up for that, happy to head to Kent and ride up some hills. Will have a look at my work diary for the Wednesdays as I have a bit of Lieu time I could use up if my diary is clear!

  • Take your time and enjoy it! It's a nice route. You will find people along the way to ride with which makes time pass quicker. Enjoy the controls and the extra cakes you can justify. An easy conversation starter is 'nice bike'.
Make sure you know where you are going don't rely on someone you don't know, nothing worse than smashing after someone and realising 10 minutes later they didn't know where they were going!!!
There will be a few people off here doing LOL and the Audax Club Hackney lot are a friendly bunch.

  • Don't ride near a fat Aussie.. his bike might break in half.

Other than that, pace yourself, eat and drink often and enjoy it.

  • Cheers for the advice.
In terms of following a route I use my garmin to discovery Surrey.
Never used a route sheet before and tips on using one?

  • There will be gpx available from Tim the organiser, which you can use on your Garmin, worth having a route sheet as back-up.

  • Sadly, I can't make this, just no time. Sorry for bedwetting. :(

I was a DNS but due to things beyond my control (flight home from Chambery delayed by 20 hours).

  • Here is the route if you want to have a look. It's essentially the reverse route of one I got from bigfoot.cc which I've edited a bit. It say 87km on the map but I still have some more edits to do and there will be an extra 20km from my place and back.

So that'll be Sunday the 1st. This Wednesday will be from mine to Much Hadham (in Hertfordshire) stopping in Highams Park (near Chingford) to pick up a friend. About 60km. Then I'll be building a set of wheels and cycling back. So there will be a bit of a break.

The Wednesday after that probably the same but I may continue on to Cambridge which would make it something like 225 ish.

  • If you want to ride it the traditional way using a paper route sheet I have a route sheet handlebar mount that you'd be welcome to borrow. I did it this way during my first year of audaxing. I'm only in my third season by the way.

  • I notice this is in Mar and is 300k. The next logical step for PBP, no? (There's also WCC's 3Down the week after, which I might do as well).

    I can haz GPS track?

Why does the AUK calendar list it twice? Is it just to let people choose a different start time?

  • That is correct. For you I can recommend the late start as you can train out in the morning and train back in the evening.

  • Here is last years. There is an issue with the first control maybe petrol station closed so you have to amend? @The_Seldom_Killer

  • You're right, there's early morning trains from Ealing to Paddington and then out to Oxford that would get me there before the start (assuming the start is close-ish to the station?)

  • It is Peartree Travelodge.

  • March 7th there's also the Kennett Valley run:

Riding out to it and back would make it a ~330k ride but I would probably get a train to that as I'm busy that night.
