  • Rosie I've just found the wires and printing now, will bring tomorrow.

    Route's also on my Garmin.

  • ace, cheers. I can't even find the start on google maps so am giving up on any kind of navigational preparation and going to hope I can make sense of the route directions (or just follow you)

  • IME routesheets will be provided. I love audax routesheets.

  • Good luck to all those riding tomorrow :) weather's looking decent

  • Was great meeting a riding with some forumers today (Akin & mountaingoatmatt)
We got really lucky with the weather, and it was the nicest I've seen the views around the man of kent route :)

I've finally snapped and decided to ride the Porkers 400km - looks a full fielding of AC Hackneys 7 strong Audax club!

    Woohoo! I am very afraid...

Great to meet you too. That ride was awesome; the views were spectacular, especially the coast line seen beyond and across the beautiful kent countryside.

  • Woops, through a mixture of moving house and hangover, I missed the Witham Wanderer.

  • You missed out, it was ace.

Good to hear you had fun Rosie, I had a completely excellent day out there too. Super nice weather til 1, nice enough after til the end. A bit blowy on the latter half but I guess that was on my back on the way out. Enjoyed 160kms fixed immensely, quite surprised myself. A few more 100s needed before I do a 200 fixed.

  • Vesalius, facebook can suck my ++ but I'm sure it's a lovely link.

  • No worries Skully, here's a summary for you

    Sounds like you're there already??

  • Signed up for the Kernow and Southwest.

  • Ves - yeah I'm sure I can just handle 200 fixed, but I want to work on more regular 100s to start doing them a tiny bit faster. My 'progress' into longer distances is intentionally slow, I am old and creaky, no rush. 300s fixed by 2015 ...

  • Sorry I missed you Skulls! You were just leaving as we were arriving.

I had a lovely day on My First Audax - beautiful route, lovely countryside and animals to coo at (bar the very freshly dead badger not far from the start), prompt start time (with most of the LFGSS contingent straggling out last!), great mix of cyclists (couple in their 70's? 80's on a tandem trike, some beautiful classic frames, guy on a folder, guy with calipers plugging away) who mostly knew how to ride nicely, mandatory tea stop, Alex Dowsett spot and a buffet at the end. Awesome

Lovely to see Bendix being a champ cycling home afterwards, Fox and his beyootiful crabon audax bike, KT Bee also keeping it champ face getting up North Hill fixed, and fussballclub.

I've only done one sportive but after yesterday, never again! T

The buffet isn't a standard feature of an audax, right?

  • getting up North Hill fixed

I held the course record briefly, done on fixed. #livinginthepast

  • Alex Dowsett overtook me at approximately six times my speed going up North Hill :l

I am a bit broken today. I have dehydration eyes and I still smell like long distance cyclist despite thorough showering. Out of long distance ride practice.

  • The buffet isn't a standard feature of an audax, right?

It varies, some have a great selection, some are mediocre.

Very jealous of you lots, my g/f came back on Saturday so end up spending a day with her yesterday to make up for lost time.

Amazing. Mediocre buffet > no buffet I reckon.

Totally called myself out as newb though when the organiser hung onto my brevet and I asked if I could keep it to go in my ride journal. Rookie error!

    Joining AudaxUK tonight though!

  • Will check the Meridian Hills perms out, the Severn Across 407k look idea (and it'll be warmer too).

Can't find the Meridian Hills on the Audax UK site.

  • Looking at this one as a possible next audax 100km ridehttp://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-205/
I've ridden an audax in that area before and it's lovely. The other main reason is that the starting point is fairly close to where I live :)

  • I'm considering that one too.
Actually I was considering the 200km plus there-and-back but I'm a bit scared by the prospect.

  • weather look good for it.

  • anyone doing the severn across, I've booked into a room at the greyhound on friday night. booked a twin though will only be singling.

if anyone else is out that way a beer/meal could be in order.

also happy to split a room if someone is having similar thoughts
(was cheaper to book as a single so have done that for now)
