  • I'm currently planning a 300km DIY route that leaves from my house to maximise cycling, and minimise train faffage etc

I'm jumping on the back of the Man of kent 200km which is a relatively flat route, and a route I've quickly bodged together from my house to tonbridge (the start of the MoK perm) works out about 53km, which makes a perfect ~300km in total, with a bit extra to ensure I'm not under distance.

  • Vesalius - when are you planning on riding this planned 300?

Also - is anyone else entered for the Surrey Hillier 100km on the 21st April? - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-572/

  • Just sent off my form for the Midweek Sightseer 100k. My first audax!

I did this one last year. Saw parts of London that I'd never seen before and going on routes that I would not normally take. Was a great turnout and the cafe in Greenwich was packed. Hmm. Might have to do this one again.

  • ^^Hey Yossarian, not sure yet. Although I would love to have the route sorted and be entered to get the nice weather on Sunday!

I'm also pretty flexible next week (i have a lecture week, which I can do from home) as well if you fancy doing it as a long midweek ride?

Would like to go over the first/last section from my house to tonbridge just to check for for a less hillier route/ make sure this one is on suitable roads.

  • Yup.

What I dont know cant hurt me. Until it's too late.

I shall look forward to seeing you there.

  • Also signed up for Witham Wanderer. Prob see some of you at Liverpool St .

  • Ended up doing the 300 I planned above, my first 300 down!
Left my house a 4:30am this morn, returned around 7:45pm

was a lovely day, and the kent downs are beautiful,
but I had strong headwind most of the way round which really pissed me off at times, and the route is even hillier than I thought (~2900m)

anyway, a great confidence boost after my RRTY was scuppered by lingering knee pain last month

  • Wow, 300. Nice one. Well done. I'm hoping to try my first 200 this year at some point. Went for a L to B in the end as it was a nice day. My fitness has seriously gone down since the last time I did it. But the headwinds were pretty strong.

  • Thanks :)

Going straight south the headwinds must have been a killer? :s

  • Left my house a 4:30am this morn, returned around 7:45.

    90kph average, sick.

  • Great effort with the 300! Must be even tougher riding it solo

  • ^^I don't know what you mean :p

^ And yeah what I would've done for another cyclist to draft!

Next ride planned is the Green and Yellow fields 300km starting 00:01am on saturday, a lot easier on the knees going around essex/suffolk/norfolk.

  • Blimey, just over 13 hours. That's impressive. You didn't stop much then?

I really enjoyed the Man of Kent.

The Green and Yellow Fields last year took me a lot longer than that :(

  • Unfortunately a little bit longer than 13 hours haha, those sums must have got a bit muddled somewhere.

the GPS file says 15 hours 17 mins door to door

  • That's still good, especially on your own and with that wind. I'm kinda relieved to be honest, that would have been a bit scary!

The Green and Yellow Fields took me 17.5. Not on my own, although I was fixed. Although as you say it's a lot flatter. I'm sure all those 200s put you in really good sted for it.

  • those doing the BCM - what are your plans?
    hotel/camp friday?
staying sunday night or train home?

  • Zanda - get yourself booked into the Travelodge in Chepstow, that's where we stayed both Friday and Sunday nights last year, as with all Travelodges it had the usual air of absolute depravity about it, from the questionable pairings of people checking whose wives had no idea where they were to the 'guess the weight of the baby' competetition being championed by the lady at reception.

Still, it's cheap, you can put your bike in your room and it's close to the start...

  • That BCM looks...hmmm.

  • I should be joining you in doing the BCM zanda, just have to get some stamps as you can't enter online! :p

  • I'd get your skates on if you plan on entering. Place confirmations have started and it will sell out.

cheers for the heads up Yossarian.
btw, you have inspired me to read catch-22 on my imminent holiday.

  • Yeah I'm surprised it's not already by the sounds of things, have the envelopes/cheque etc sitting here and meant to post them today but I was busy changing the rims on my wheelset and not doing my uni work..

  • Zanda - get yourself booked into the Travelodge in Chepstow

Travelodge Bristol Severn View (M48). Very easy to cycle from there over to Bulwak for the start.

BCM is an awesome ride, and suprisingly fixed friendly. The only bit that is remotely tricky is the first bit of the road up to Kings YH in Dolgellau.

  • I'm staying at the Travelodge at Severn View. I'm probably going to book in again on Sunday night as the drive back to Sheffield last time was a bit grim. I would strongly advise on booking the Monday off work as well.

This is a ride that is worth spending a it of time researching. The info on yacf is pretty useful.

  • G&Y fields tonight, see you on the other side :)
