Recommend joining Audax Club Hackney if you can. Lovely, friendly bunch and monthly beers plus lots of advice and encouragement.

Also worth checking out TransAlp Rando (https://www.transalprando.com/) - Pete Kelsey rode it last year and recommended it highly...

Rode the Poor Student yesterday, my first calendar event since before the pandemic, I can barely get out of a chair today.

Oh nice, I was riding too. Second to third control was grim with that headwind and rain right?
-
• #12082
Yeah that was a tough section, it was the heavy rain late in the afternoon when I thought it had passed that was the low point for me.

Well done.
Was my last calendar before the pandemic.

That looks great - as luck would have it I just confirmed a place on APN which is the same weekend, though would perhaps rather be in the Italian mountains!

Just had a look back, it was mine too!

Anyone doing Wander Wye? Got a message from the organiser saying the overnight control is gonna be busy and basic and to think about a travelodge. If any of you are doing it, want to go halfsies on a room?

Might be useful, haven't looked into it, just rang a bell.

I'm 95% sure I'll be doing that and would defo split room, just need final blessing from my better half. Give me 24 hours and I'll confirm if that's cool?

That'd be wicked! Will look out for it

Green light, I'm in. We can hopefully chat deets on Saturday at HDIJ.

Signed up for a few calender events as my mate is doing PBP. Think a few on here are doing Amesbury Amble? Have also singed up for Aberdaron 400km, looks hard!

Rode the Newport 200 yesterday. Was a long, slow day. Mostly headwinds. Felt hillier than it should have. Thankfully no rain this year.

I’m doing amesbury amble probably fixed - see you there
I’m also doing the Steam ride. Anyone else booked on that?
(After breaking my hip on a solo ride last summer I’ve promised mrs RVL there’ll be no long-distance lone rides) -

This bike is absolutely glorious but I bet even a lightly rolling route feels hilly on it! Good riding nevertheless.

I am, see you there. My other half also frowns upon long solo rides...

Wicked, look forward to it.

looking to get some audaxes under my belt after a few years away. Does anyone know if you're limited by how many DIY/Perm events that can contribute to the Brevet Awards? Need a goal to set for myself.
Can't spot it on the AUK site but there's a limited amount of calendar events nearby out here in the wilds of Worcestershire and conscious its already Feb in the audax calendar.

All of the UK awards of that kind treat different types of event equally.
It’s only the points leaderboards and awards awarded from abroad that make a distinction.
I haven't done any audaxs before but I joined AUK recently and I have entered fast times in the high weald and I think I will enter the shark and the white hart, especially given I'm a Hackney resident. Hopefully see other forumers there.
